Oh, look, another movie about someone having a mid-life crisis! 🙄 This time, it’s a photographer who’s clearly lost his mojo and decides the best way to find it is by driving through the American Southwest. Because nothing says “artistic revival” like scorching heat and questionable gas station sushi. 🌵 Apparently, he stumbles into some “dark and chaotic underbelly” – whatever that means – and drags his poor wife and a “shady private detective” along for the ride. Sounds like a blast! 🎉
So, we’ve got this dude, right? A photographer. Probably wears a fedora and thinks he’s super deep. He’s trying to recapture the “magic” of his previous work. 🧙♂️ Magic? Please. More like he’s desperately trying to avoid admitting he peaked in his 20s. So, he embarks on a road trip. Because clichés are there for a reason, duh. And what does he find? Not inspiration, but the “dark and chaotic underbelly of America.” 🌃 I bet it involves a lot of poorly lit dive bars and people with questionable hygiene.
And of course, because misery loves company, he drags his wife into this mess. 👰♀️ Because nothing says “I love you” like forcing your spouse to confront your existential dread. And a “shady private detective” is thrown into the mix. 🕵️ Probably the kind who wears a trench coat even in the desert and asks way too many questions.
The trailer? Oh, the trailer. It’s got all the hallmarks of a “neo-noir horror film.” 🚬 Lots of moody shots, dramatic music, and people looking stressed. Probably some artsy symbolism that only film school graduates will understand. 😴
Directed by some guy named Joshua Erkman, who I’m sure is a very talented individual, but let’s be honest, probably just trying to make a name for himself. The cast includes David Yow, Kai Lennox, Sarah Lind, Zachary Ray Sherman, and Ashley B. Smith. Names you definitely know, unless you actually watch good movies.
“A Desert” premiered at Tribeca. You know, that film festival where everyone pretends to be super sophisticated while secretly just hoping to get noticed by Hollywood. 🎬 It also played at FrightFest and Sitges, because nothing says “high art” like appealing to horror fans. 🔪
And finally, the kicker: “A Desert” is coming to UK and Ireland digital platforms on November 24, 2025. 🗓️ Mark your calendars, folks! Get ready to waste two hours of your life watching a movie that’s probably trying way too hard to be deep. 🤔 Or, you know, just re-watch a classic. Your call. 😉
