I’m sipping my coffee and reading about the latest drama in Washington, folks, and it’s a doozy. Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s deputy chief of staff, John Leganski, has written a book about the wild ride it took to get McCarthy into office. I mean, 15 votes over four days? That’s like trying to get my family to agree on where to go for dinner – it’s a miracle they finally settled on something. Apparently, Leganski’s book, “Glory, Grief, and the Gavel: An Inside Guide to Running for Speaker of the House,” is a behind-the-scenes look at all the chaos that ensued.
I’m not surprised to hear that Trump was involved in some expletive-laden attacks on lawmakers – that’s just par for the course, right? But still, it’s always entertaining to read about. According to Leganski, Trump was quite the character during the whole ordeal, and I can only imagine the kinds of things he was saying behind closed doors. I’m a little disappointed that Leganski didn’t share more of the juicy details, but I guess that’s what makes for a good book.
Leganski sat down with CNN’s Manu Raju to talk about his book, and I have to say, I’m a little curious to read it now. Not just because of the Trump drama, but because it’s always fascinating to get a peek into the inner workings of Congress. I mean, who doesn’t love a good story about politicians behaving badly? And with the state of the House of Representatives being what it is today, it’s interesting to see how things have played out since McCarthy took office.
I’m not sure what’s more surprising, the fact that McCarthy finally won the speakership or that Leganski managed to write a whole book about it. I guess that’s what happens when you’re a part of something historic – even if it is a little ridiculous. Somewhere in Atlanta, a producer thought this story would make for great TV, and I have to agree. It’s not every day you get to read about lawmakers throwing tantrums and politicians behaving like, well, politicians.
In the end, it’s just another day in Washington, folks. The drama never ends, and neither does the entertainment value. I’ll be keeping an eye on this story, and maybe even pick up Leganski’s book when I have some time. Who knows, maybe it’ll be the next big political page-turner. And if nothing else, it’ll be a funny story to tell at my next dinner party – just don’t ask me to choose the restaurant.
