Lil Wayne Cancels Maine Show Over Seizure Concerns

Lil Wayne has attributed the recent cancellation of his June 30th show in Maine to being unable to fly due to a seizure risk. According to the New Orleans native, he had “bad-ass migraines” that night, which are a seizure trigger, and he was thus advised not to fly.

“Bangor, Maine, I gotta motherfuckin’ apologize to you personally again, for real, for real,” Lil Wayne said in a grainy Instagram video posted on July 5th, which he began by jamming on the guitar. “Sorry for missing that show the other night.”

He continued, “Listen, I have epilepsy, and I have seizures, right? Thank God I haven’t had a seizure in years, but seizures have triggers. The trigger to my seizures [is] bad-ass migraines, and I had a bad-ass migraine that night. It was recommended I don’t get in the air.”

Health Issues and Tour Schedule

After mumbling that he still “tried to get on the plane to rock that bitch,” Lil Wayne said he would make up the kickoff show on Tuesday, July 28th, and do everything in his power to make sure fans who can’t or don’t wish to attend get their refunds instead.

Lil Wayne fans were particularly heated at the time of the cancellation because they didn’t find out he wasn’t showing until his opening act, 2 Chainz, had already performed. To compound their frustration, Lil Wayne was a guest at Michael Rubin’s annual White Party in Southampton, New York, the next day on July 1st.

The rapper has a highly publicized history of epileptic seizures. In September 2017, he suffered multiple seizures in a Chicago hotel room. This came after he had a pair of in-flight seizures in 2016 and was hospitalized with a third less than a month later.

Lil Wayne revealed his diagnosis in 2013 after being hospitalized for multiple seizures. “The bad news is I’m an epileptic, I’m prone to seizures,” he told Power 106. “Like, this isn’t my first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh seizure,” he explained at the time. “I’ve had a bunch of seizures, y’all just never hear about them.”

It appears Lil Wayne’s health is fully back on track, as he immediately returned to the stage with shows in Saratoga Springs, New York, and Gilford, New Hampshire, on July 2nd and 3rd. However, he was two hours late to the latter concert.
