Alabama Shakes are back to announce their first new album in 11 years, I Must Be Dreaming. The album will arrive on August 28th via Island Records. The trio, comprised of guitarist and vocalist Brittany Howard, guitarist Heath Fogg, and bassist Zac Cockrell, recorded their third studio album with producer Shawn Everett in Nashville’s Sound Emporium Studios and Blackbird Studio.

Regarding its title, Howard described I Must Be Dreaming in a statement as having a “double meaning”: “It could be saying, ‘I must be dreaming, because the world is so fucking crazy right now.’ But it could also mean, ‘I must be dreaming, because the world is so incredibly beautiful.’ Both those things can be true at once.”
Alabama Shakes will reveal “I Feel Hope Coming,” the third single off I Must Be Dreaming, this Friday, July 10th. It follows previous singles “Another Life” and “American Dream”. According to Howard and Fogg, “I Feel Hope Coming” was inspired by the next generation’s political activism and the optimism they found as they began collaborating again.

“This younger generation makes me feel hopeful because they can see through all the political lies — that song’s about holding onto that hope, and refusing to give up,” Howard said. “I’m really happy that song exists,” Fogg added. “It came from such a joyful moment of collaboration, and exemplifies everything I love about this band being reborn.”
Alabama Shakes originally reunited in 2024 for a one-off performance, but continued through 2025 with their first formal tour in eight years. They also teased I Must Be Dreaming last year by posting a photo of the band working in the studio with Everett. The trio have kept their momentum going with a lengthy stretch of 2026 tour dates, including several headlining shows, appearances at summer festivals in Europe and North America, and a pair of dates opening for Zach Bryan.
