Folks, I almost spilled my coffee reading this one. Rep. Max Miller is still in the running for his seat in Ohio’s 7th District, despite all the drama surrounding him. I mean, this guy’s got more baggage than a Louis Vuitton store. Abuse allegations, a messy divorce, and a child custody dispute – it’s like a never-ending soap opera. And yet, he’s still defiantly saying he’s going to clear his name and win the election. Bless their hearts.
Miller’s been denying the allegations from his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, who claims he abused her and their daughter. But the thing is, the deadline for party leaders to replace him on the ballot has passed, so he’s stuck on the ticket now. I guess that’s what they mean by “in for a penny, in for a pound.” The Republicans were trying to get him to drop out, but he just won’t budge. You can’t make this stuff up, folks.
The controversy surrounding Miller is putting the GOP’s chances of maintaining control of the House in jeopardy. I mean, this was supposed to be a safe seat, but now it’s anyone’s game. The Democrats are probably rubbing their hands together in glee, thinking they’ve got this one in the bag. Miller’s spokesperson said he’s remaining in the race, and I’m sure the party leaders are just thrilled about that.
It’s not just the Republicans who are calling for Miller to resign, though. His former father-in-law, Sen. Bernie Moreno, is also speaking out against him. He says Miller “should not serve” in Congress and is “a danger to my daughter.” That’s some pretty strong language right there. And then there’s Jon Husted, the junior Republican senator from Ohio, who’s also calling for Miller to abandon his race and resign from Congress. It’s like the whole party is turning against him.
In an interview on CNN, Miller said he spoke with Trump about his position in the race. Trump apparently told him it would be “tough” and seemed to express some doubt about his chances of winning. But Miller’s all like, “I’m going to stay in and clear my name.” I guess that’s what they mean by “digging in your heels.” He even posted a bunch of messages, pictures, and videos on social media to try and defend himself, but that just ended up causing more controversy.
Miller’s set to face off against Democrat Brian Poindexter in November, and I’m sure that’s going to be a real barnburner of an election. I mean, who doesn’t love a good underdog story? Poindexter’s an ironworker, so maybe he can hammer out a win against Miller. Ha! Okay, I’ll stop with the bad puns now.
In all seriousness, though, this whole situation is a mess. Miller’s got a lot of explaining to do, and the Republicans are probably going to have to do some damage control if they want to keep their chances of winning the House alive. It’s going to be an interesting few months, that’s for sure. And who knows, maybe Miller will surprise everyone and come out on top. But until then, I’ll just be over here, sipping my coffee and watching the drama unfold. 🙄
