Anthrax fires Joey Belladonna because of course they did

Oh boy, are you guys ready for some drama? 🤯 Because I’ve got a scoop that’s gonna make your head spin: Anthrax’s Scott Ian is still talking about the band’s split with Joey Belladonna… 30 years later! 😱 I mean, I know metalheads love to hold grudges, but this is like, a whole new level of dedication to being salty. 🤣

So, let’s get into it. Scott Ian was on the “Naked Lunch” podcast, and he’s still reflecting on the band’s decision to replace Joey Belladonna with John Bush back in 1992. Because, you know, that’s not a decision you make lightly… or one that you can just forget about after a few decades. 🙄 Ian said it was a band decision, and not just him being a solo dictator (although, let’s be real, it’s not like he’s never been known to have strong opinions 🤣). He also mentioned that it was a tough time, and that they all felt like they’d hit a creative wall with Belladonna.

The Drama Continues…

But here’s the thing: Belladonna has been pretty vocal about how he feels like he was wronged by the band. In a 2021 interview, he said it “just seems rotten” that he was fired twice by Anthrax before rejoining the band 16 years ago. And, honestly, I don’t blame him. I mean, who wouldn’t feel a little bitter about being kicked out of a band you helped make famous? 🤷‍♂️ Belladonna also said that he doesn’t forget, and that it’s hard to move on from that kind of thing. Aw, Joey, we feel you, buddy 🤗.

And then there’s the whole thing with John Bush, who replaced Belladonna in 1992. Bush has said that he respects Belladonna, but that he just went out and did his own thing when he joined the band. Which, fair enough, is what you’ve got to do when you’re replacing a legendary vocalist. But it’s also kind of like, “Hey, I’m the new guy, and I’m gonna make this band my own”… which, let’s be real, can be a pretty tough sell when you’re following in the footsteps of a metal icon like Joey Belladonna.

Reunions and Reflections

But despite all the drama, Anthrax did eventually reunite with Belladonna in 2010, and they’ve been killing it ever since. Ian has said that the band is better than it’s ever been, and that they’ve done their best work with Belladonna back on vocals. Which, hey, is great to hear… but also kind of makes you wonder what could’ve been if they’d just stuck it out with Belladonna back in the day 🤔.

And now, Anthrax is gearing up to release their 12th studio album, “Cursum Perficio”, on September 18. Which, let’s be real, is pretty exciting… but also kind of feels like a reminder that, no matter how much drama you’ve got in your past, the show must go on 🤘. So, will you be checking out the new album? Let us know in the comments! 🤗

Anyway, that’s the latest from the world of Anthrax. Because, let’s face it, you can’t have too much drama in your life… especially when it comes to metal 🤘. Stay tuned for more updates, and try not to get too caught up in the soap opera that is Anthrax’s history 😂.
