Justin Vernon, the mastermind behind Bon Iver, has recently ventured into the world of commercial jingles, and his first project is a catchy tune for Meatloaf Dippers. The jingle, which was created to promote Howard’s Bar in downtown Stillwater, Minnesota, is now available to stream.
New Musical Venture
The news of Vernon’s foray into jingle-making came as a surprise, as the commercial was released in late August without much fanfare. The ad promotes one of Howard’s Bar‘s signature menu items, Meatloaf Dippers, which are essentially fried meatloaf sticks. Vernon’s jingle is a far cry from his usual introspective and emotionally charged songs, such as “Skinny Love“.
In the Meatloaf Dippers jingle, Vernon sings, “Meatloaf dippers at Howard’s in Stillwater/Meatloaf dippers can be a whole meal or starter/Meatloaf dippers, oh so light and yummy/Go on and warm your tummy, with dippers.” The song is accompanied by Schoolhouse Rock-style animation created by illustrator Nick Stokes.
Collaboration and Inspiration
Howard’s Bar, which opened in 2023, is owned by Chef Adam To and his musician wife Caroline Smith. Caroline Smith is no stranger to collaborations with prominent musicians, having released a song with Lizzo in 2014. The combination of Justin Vernon‘s musical talent and Caroline Smith‘s culinary expertise has resulted in a unique and catchy jingle that is sure to stick in listeners’ heads.
In conclusion, Justin Vernon‘s venture into commercial jingles is a surprising yet delightful turn of events. The Meatloaf Dippers jingle is a fun and catchy tune that showcases Vernon’s ability to create music that is both memorable and entertaining. As Bon Iver continues to explore new musical avenues, fans can look forward to more innovative and unexpected projects from this talented artist.
