LONDON—In a damning memoir filled with explosive claims about her brutal treatment by the House of Windsor, Diana, the former Princess of Wales, has at long last given the public a firsthand account of her disturbing experiences living with the British royal family. “So many unfounded rumors have been circulating about me and my relationship to the monarchy, so I decided it was time to finally speak out,” Diana said Thursday during a press conference that accompanied the memoir’s release, adding that she had “pulled no punches” when it came to discussing the “troubling words and behavior” of her ex-husband, King Charles III. “Of course, there are many powerful people who would prefer I remain silent, but I am willing to take some risks if it means the world will finally know the truth. My goal with this book is to provide the full story, free from royal influence, of what really went on in Buckingham Palace when I was princess. And I am more than willing to ruffle some very big feathers.” At press time, the book had been roundly condemned by Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, and former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
