Rock Band Manager Now In Charge Of Not Ruining Kennedy Center

Rock Band Manager Now In Charge Of Not Ruining Kennedy Center

Folks, I almost spilled my coffee reading this one. The Kennedy Center, our nation’s premier performing arts center, is getting a new executive artistic director, and it’s not exactly a traditional choice. Rick Canny, a longtime talent manager who’s worked with rock stars like Motley Crue’s Tommy Lee and Jane’s Addiction’s Dave Navarro, is taking the reins. I mean, who wouldn’t want to see some hair metal at the Kennedy Center, right? Bless their hearts for thinking outside the box.

I have to wonder what the folks at the Kennedy Center were thinking when they hired Canny. I mean, the guy’s got a great track record with rock stars, but the Kennedy Center is all about ballet, opera, and jazz, not exactly Canny’s area of expertise. You can’t blame him for trying, though – the center’s been having a tough time lately, what with the Covid pandemic and President Trump’s, shall we say, “interesting” ideas about programming.

It’s not like Canny is a complete stranger to the arts, though. He’s worked with Dave Navarro on a nonprofit that raises awareness about mental health issues, so he’s got some experience with more serious stuff. But still, it’s a bit of a stretch to go from managing rock stars to running the Kennedy Center’s programming. Somewhere in Atlanta, a producer thought this sounded like a great idea, I’m sure.

The Kennedy Center’s been having a rough time lately, with financial troubles and boycotts from performers. Trump’s involvement hasn’t exactly helped, what with his criticism of the center’s “woke political programming” and his attempts to add his name to the building. I mean, who needs that kind of drama, right? It’s like they say: when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. But when life gives you Trump, make… well, I’m not sure what you make, but it’s probably not good.

Canny’s got a tough road ahead of him, trying to revive the Kennedy Center’s programming and lure back all the artists and programs that have been driven away by the controversy. And with Trump still lurking in the background, threatening to demolish the building if he doesn’t get his way, it’s going to be a wild ride. I’ll be watching from the sidelines with my coffee, wondering what on earth they’ll come up with next.

The future of the Kennedy Center is still up in the air, with the court case ongoing and the renovations still pending. But one thing’s for sure: with Canny at the helm, it’s going to be an interesting few years. And who knows, maybe we’ll even see a Motley Crue reunion at the Kennedy Center. Stranger things have happened, right? In the end, it’s all about the art, and if Canny can bring some excitement and energy to the Kennedy Center, then more power to him. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to refill my coffee cup – this story’s got me exhausted just reading about it.
