Oh boy, are you guys ready for this? 🤯 DEEP PURPLE just dropped the music video for the title track of their latest album, “Splat!”, and I’m still trying to pick my jaw up from the floor. I mean, what’s next? Are they going to start playing sold-out shows on the moon? 🌕 The fact that they’re still cranking out new music after all these years is just mind-boggling. I guess when you’re a hard rock legend, you can do whatever you want. Anyway, the album “Splat!” was released on July 3 via earMUSIC, and it’s their sixth collaboration with producer Bob Ezrin, who’s been working with them since 2013’s “Now What?!”
So, “Splat!” is being hailed as the heaviest DEEP PURPLE album in many years. Because, you know, that’s exactly what the world was missing – more heavy DEEP PURPLE music. I mean, who needs subtlety when you can just turn it up to 11 and shred? 🤘 The album has already received enthusiastic reactions from fans and media, with Uncut calling it “distilled, high-octane PURPLE at its finest” and Classic Rock praising it for delivering “everything that makes DEEP PURPLE one of the greatest acts in hard rock.” Yeah, because that’s not something we’ve heard before.
The Album’s Concept
Apparently, the idea behind “Splat!” was conceived by singer Ian Gillan, and it explores the end of humanity not in a crude apocalyptic sense, but as a metamorphosis beyond physical existence. Because, you know, that’s exactly what I want to listen to when I put on a DEEP PURPLE album – existential dread and the meaninglessness of life. Just kidding, it’s probably going to be a bunch of awesome riffs and solos, and I’m here for it. 🤟
The band released four singles from “Splat!”, including “Diablo”, “Arrogant Boy”, “Guilt Trippin'”, and the title track. And, because why not, they even got Keith Urban to guest on “Diablo” because, you know, that’s exactly what that song needed – a little bit of country flair. I’m just imagining the conversation between Ian Gillan and Keith Urban – “Hey, Keith, want to come play some guitar on our new album?” “Sure thing, Ian, but only if I can wear my cowboy hat and bring my acoustic guitar.” 🤠
DEEP PURPLE’s Legacy
With over 120 million albums sold since forming in 1968, DEEP PURPLE has long secured their place in rock history. They’re not just a band, they’re an institution. They’ve been named the “Fifth Most Influential Band Ever” by Planet Rock, and they’ve won numerous awards, including the “Legend Award” at the 2008 World Music Awards. They were even inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016, because, you know, it’s about time. I mean, what took them so long? 🙄
The band has been touring non-stop since the 60s, and they show no signs of slowing down. They’re like the Rolling Stones, but, you know, actually good. 🙃 They’ve had their fair share of lineup changes over the years, but the current roster of Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Ian Paice, Don Airey, and Simon McBride is still bringing the house down with their unique blend of hard rock and… well, more hard rock. 🤘
So, what’s next for DEEP PURPLE? Will they continue to release new music and tour the world, or will they finally decide to hang up their guitars and retire? Probably not, because, you know, rockstars never retire. They just keep on rocking until they die. 🤣 And, honestly, I’m okay with that. Keep on rocking, DEEP PURPLE. Keep on rocking. 🤟
