In a shocking turn of events, Wolfgang Van Halen, the son of the late Eddie Van Halen, was seen breathing and speaking in an interview with Andy Guitar at the Download festival in the UK 🎸. We’re not sure what’s more surprising, the fact that he’s still alive or that he’s still talking about his dad 🤣. Wolfgang reflected on his experience playing his dad’s songs at the Taylor Hawkins tribute concerts, and we’re pretty sure he didn’t get paid enough to relive all those memories 💸.
Wolfgang said, “Yeah, to me, it was like closing a book 📚. It was my way of being able to not only honor Taylor, but honor my dad by playing some of his material and just kind of keep out of the mess that is the… 🙅♂️” We’re not really sure what he means by that, but we’re pretty sure it’s a clever way of saying he’s still trying to figure out how to use his dad’s amp 🔋. He continued, “I get anxiety normally when I’m doing nothing, but for that day, my uncle Patrick will tell you, I was very… I was losing it that day 🤯. ‘Cause to me, it was, ‘If I don’t do this right, if I don’t serve this justice, then my life will be over’ 💀.” Wow, that’s some serious pressure 🤯.
He also talked about how he had to practice a lot to play his dad’s songs, and we’re pretty sure he’s just trying to prove to everyone that he’s not just riding his dad’s coattails 🚂. “I didn’t just put a CD in and upload it into my head 📀,” he said. “I practice a lot 🤣. It’s a really weird backhanded compliment, where it’s, like, ‘Oh, you did nothing to be able to do this’ 🙄. And it’s like, ‘No, I work very hard to be able to do what I can do’ 💪.” Okay, Wolfgang, we get it, you practice a lot 🤓.
Wolfgang also spoke about how he was hesitant to play Van Halen songs at first, but eventually decided to do it because, why not 🤷♂️? “I had a lot of conversations with Dave 📞. What a kind sweetheart of a man he is 🤗,” Wolfgang said. “We talked a lot about [it] 🗣️. Initially, he was, like, ‘What do you think? Would you be comfortable doing this?’ Initially, I didn’t wanna disappoint Dave Grohl 🙅♂️. And I was, like, ‘Sure’ 🤔. And he was, like, ‘Why don’t you think about it and get back to me?’ And so I did 🤓.” Wow, that’s some serious decision-making skills 🤯.
In other news, Wolfgang’s band Mammoth is still a thing 🎸, and they’re still not playing Van Halen covers 🙅♂️. “People are like, ‘Oh, don’t mention Van Halen 🙄.’ It’s, like, ‘It’s my fucking name 🤣. Why would I hate it? It’s my dad 🤗. I love my dad ❤️. I was in the fucking band 🤘,'” Wolfgang said. Okay, got it, you love your dad 🙄.
The interview was a wild ride 🎠, full of emotions 🤣, and we’re pretty sure Wolfgang is still trying to figure out how to use his dad’s amp 🔋. But hey, at least he’s still talking about his dad 🗣️, and that’s all that matters 🤷♂️. So, if you’re a fan of Wolfgang or Van Halen, you should definitely check out the interview 📺, but if you’re not, then you can just keep scrolling 📊. 🤪
