King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard have announced their new album, Alien Metal. Previewing the record, the psychedelic jam band unveiled the lead single “Level 5.” The band’s 28th studio album will be released later this summer on their own p(doom) records. With the new LP, the band dove into electronic music and techno. The album was born out of an hour-long jam on a modular synthesizer setup, creating the basis for every song on the record, which will take listeners on an “ever-shifting journey through techno, hardcore, house, and jungle influences, filtered through King Gizzard’s unmistakable psychedelic lens,” a press release said.

“We’ve never scrapped so much material as we have for this album,” said guitarist and vocalist Stu Mackenzie. “Entire albums, entire universes that were formulated, created, recorded, deleted, and started again.” Fellow guitarist and vocalist Joey Walker added, “Alien Metal goes really hard, but it also goes to really interesting places,” and it feels unique — It feels like us, still.”

“Level 5” delivers a trippy amalgamation of sequenced sounds, frenetic rhythms, and mechanical melodies with hints of humanity in distorted vocals and synthetic string instruments that fuse into an otherworldly techno tune. Earlier this week, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard added a new show to their sparse 2026 schedule. The band is putting on a rave show in Brooklyn, New York at Under the K Bridge Park on August 23rd, with .VRIL supporting.
