Trump And His Former "Rat" Lawyer Cohen Reunite For Chummy Chat

Folks, I almost spilled my coffee reading this one. Michael Cohen, the former personal lawyer and “pit bull” for Donald Trump, has had quite the rollercoaster ride with his former boss. First, he was the loyal lawyer, then he became a bitter foe, and now he’s set to become a radio interviewer seeking public détente with Trump. I mean, you can’t make this stuff up. Cohen’s new radio show on WABC is going to feature a taped phone interview with Trump, which will be their first open conversation since their professional and personal relationship imploded over eight years ago.

It all started to go downhill for Cohen on August 21, 2018, when he pleaded guilty in Manhattan federal court to eight criminal counts and implicated Trump in a payment scheme designed to silence women who claimed affairs with the then-candidate in the 2016 election. This led to Cohen serving time in prison and later acting as the star witness in Trump’s criminal trial in New York. In 2024, Trump was convicted on 34 counts of falsifying business records related to hush money payments to Stormy Daniels, an adult film performer. Trump, who has denied the affair, was sentenced to no jail time and has appealed the conviction.

Now, after all the drama, Cohen and Trump are apparently burying the hatchet. Cohen claimed that New York prosecutors had pressured and coerced him into testifying against Trump, and once Trump returned to office, things began to shift. A quiet reconciliation got underway, starting with an unexpected text from a “White House friend and an insider” who relayed a message from the president. Cohen said the person expressed Trump’s genuine empathy for the hell he was being dragged through, and he deeply appreciated that text.

The two men have met in private over the past year at Trump’s golf course in Bedminster, New Jersey, and their conversation on Cohen’s radio show will cap the remarkable rapprochement. Cohen previewed the interview on social media, asking if forgiveness can resurrect what hatred destroyed. I guess we’ll have to tune in to find out.

It’s worth noting that CNN’s Kara Scannell contributed to this report, and I’m sure she’s just thrilled to be a part of this soap opera. Somewhere in Atlanta, a producer thought this sounded terrifying, but I just think it’s a big ol’ mess.

In conclusion, the Cohen-Trump saga is a wild ride full of twists and turns. From bitter foes to reconciled friends, it’s a story that’s hard to keep up with. As I finish my coffee and wrap up this article, I’m left thinking that only in America can you go from being a “pit bull” to a radio host, and only with Donald Trump can you go from being a “rat” to a guest on someone’s radio show. Bless their hearts, indeed.
