Well, folks, I almost spilled my coffee reading this one. It seems like President Donald Trump’s endorsement isn’t as golden as it used to be. In the month of August 2026, six of his chosen candidates have already been defeated. And now, we’ve got a special primary runoff for US Senate in South Carolina, which is going to be a big test for Trump’s endorsement and his party’s loyalty.
I mean, can you believe it? Trump has put his reputation on the line for Darline Graham, the sister of the late Sen. Lindsey Graham. She’s a political neophyte, and it’s not like she’s been building a brand or anything. But hey, Trump’s got faith in her, and that’s all that matters, right? The thing is, this is a pretty big gamble for Trump, especially since his fortunes with the party have been, well, let’s say “ebbing” lately.
The situation is pretty interesting, though. After Lindsey Graham’s death, Trump recommended Darline as the appointee to replace him, and Gov. Henry McMaster went along with it. But then, just three days after she was sworn in, Trump started talking her up as a candidate for a full term. And she decided to run, despite having almost no track record. I mean, bless their hearts, but it’s like they think the voters will just trust them because Trump says so.
Now, I’m not saying that Darline Graham doesn’t have any chance of winning. But it’s not like she’s got a lot of experience or a clear platform. And Rep. Ralph Norman, the other candidate, has been building his brand for years. So, it’s not like this is a slam dunk for Trump’s endorsed candidate. In fact, if Graham loses, it’ll be a pretty big setback for the president, especially since Norman initially endorsed Nikki Haley over Trump in the 2024 presidential primary.
It’s also worth noting that this isn’t the first time Trump has inserted himself into a primary race in South Carolina. Just a couple of weeks ago, his endorsed candidate for governor, Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette, lost in the primary runoff. So, maybe Trump’s trying to make up for that loss by backing Graham. But still, it’s a pretty bold move, especially since the seat isn’t even in jeopardy in the general election.
As I’m reading this, I’m thinking, “What’s the upside for Trump here?” Is it just about proving that he still has influence over the party? Because if so, that’s a pretty weird way to do it. I mean, why not just endorse someone who’s got a better chance of winning? But hey, that’s just me, a simple guy with a coffee cup, wondering what’s going on in the world of politics.
In any case, this special primary runoff is going to be interesting to watch. Will Trump’s endorsement be enough to secure the win for Darline Graham? Or will Rep. Ralph Norman come out on top? Either way, it’s going to be a wild ride. And who knows, maybe Trump will surprise us all and come out with a win. But if not, well, that’s just another day in the world of politics, folks.
So, to sum it all up, Trump’s endorsement is on the line in South Carolina, and it’s not looking great for him. But hey, that’s just the way the cookie crumbles sometimes.
