In a recent tell-all with The Garza Podcast, hosted by SUICIDE SILENCE’s own guitar wizard Chris Garza (because who else would care?), PRONG’s supreme overlord Tommy Victor, who, bless his heart, has been playing guitar for DANZIG on and off like a bad light switch for about three decades now, spilled the tea 🍵 about his time with the Glenn Danzig-fronted spectacle (as transcribed by yours truly, BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “I’ve done three tours of duty with DANZIG. Currently, I’m still somehow involved. It feels like it’s been going on since the dinosaurs roamed the earth 🦖. I think I’ve been consistently at it since like, 2011 or something equally ancient. Sometimes Glenn gets a bit grumpy and gives me the boot 🦿. The other day PRONG graced The Whisky with our presence, and he actually showed up and we hung out. So yeah, he’s alright, I guess. We tolerate each other well enough in our advanced years 👴👴.”
Elaborating on what it’s like being a cog in the Danzig machine ⚙️, Victor revealed: “He’s often misunderstood, mainly because he’s an old-school hardass with a mentality straight out of the Stone Age 🗿. He’s got this rigid, ‘do your job and shut your trap’ kind of attitude. Like, ‘I don’t wanna hear your opinions or your feelings.’ I kind of get it, though… He’s all about knowing your place in the pecking order. Which sounds awful when I say it out loud 😂. But hey, whatever keeps the show running, right?”
Tommy continued, “You get these guys, roadies or whatever, thinking they’re suddenly rockstars just because they work for the band. They’re supposed to be tuning guitars or something, but then they’re suddenly backstage, trying to mingle with the VIPs. Like, ‘Dude, what are you doing here? Go watch the equipment or something. Seriously, get back to work 🔨.’ But no, they wanna party with the band, pick up chicks, and get wasted. And Glenn? He ain’t having none of that nonsense. No siree! 🙅♂️”
In case you’ve been living under a rock 🪨, Glenn Danzig is the last man standing from the original recording lineup of DANZIG‘s iconic 1988 self-titled album, which was the very first release on Rick Rubin‘s legendary Def American record label. You know, the one with that little song called “Mother” that everyone and their dog 🐕 knows.
Besides Victor, DANZIG‘s current band of merry men includes Johnny Kelly on drums and Steve Zing slapping the bass.
PRONG recently celebrated the 31st anniversary of their groundbreaking album “Cleansing” with a handful of intimate gigs and festival appearances across Europe. A live album documenting this momentous occasion is slated for release in February 2026. Mark your calendars! 🗓️
PRONG‘s thirteenth studio album, titled “State Of Emergency” (because everything is always an emergency, right? 🚨), dropped in October 2023 via Steamhammer/SPV. The LP was brought to life by the sonic wizardry of Steve Evetts (who also worked with SEPULTURA and THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN).
In June, PRONG proudly announced their new worldwide record deal with Napalm Records. The band’s next sonic assault 💣 is tentatively scheduled for release in the fall of 2026.
