Oh no, not another Star Wars trailer! Just when you thought the galaxy far, far away couldn’t get any more overhyped, Lucasfilm decided to drop a second trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu because apparently the first one was about as exciting as watching paint dry on Tatooine.
For the first Star Wars film Lucasfilm has brought to the table in nearly 7 years, fans were regarding the trailer presented at the Super Bowl (although Pedro Pascal was seen on the big stage during the half-time show) as mediocre. The first trailer was very tame, and fans were claiming on forums (like Reddit) that Disney fumbled the trailer harder than Grogu fumbles snacks. No exciting new looks of the film? No problem! Just release another one that’s basically the same thing but with 10% more explosions and a mysterious four-armed creature who looks suspiciously like Martin Scorsese decided to cosplay as an Ardennian.
To this, Lucasfilm released yet another new trailer for the film, which shows more from the high-octane continuation of The Mandalorian and has brought the hype and the cameos. The trailer can be seen below, and yes, the Ardennian (the four-armed furry guy) is undeniably Martin Scorsese. I mean, look at those expressive eyes! That brooding intensity! That complete lack of interest in being in a Star Wars movie! It’s gotta be him.
The Mandalorian and Grogu film is being directed by Jon Favreau, the saviour of Star Wars showrunning, since he helmed the first season of the show when it launched back in 2019. Then, it performed incredibly well with audiences. It appears the film (set after the third season, which didn’t perform incredibly well with audiences in comparison) is headed for a less-gritty, more story-oriented vibe that pushes these two heroes forward, and fans have received the new message in kind. Translation: it’s gonna be a fun space adventure instead of whatever existential crisis Mando was going through while collecting space taxes.
Fans have flocked to Reddit to discuss the new trailer in excitement (a flip from the first trailer’s reaction). One fan writes, “A much better trailer than the first one, that just looks like it’ll be a fun romp,” with another writing, “Honestly this trailer actually did get me pretty hyped to see it. Seems like it’s going to be a really fun Star Wars movie and I think that’s really what Star Wars needs right now.” Most fans of The Mandalorian seem to have the same notion: this trailer has brought the hype where the first one didn’t. Groundbreaking stuff, folks.
The Mandalorian and Grogu will hit theatres on May 22. Mark your calendars, folks! It’s the cinematic event of the year where a masked bounty hunter and his green puppet sidekick will save the galaxy from… whatever threat Disney marketing decides to hype up this time. Will it be better than the last 47 Star Wars projects? Probably! Will it have more Martin Scorsese cameos? We can only hope!
