Folks, I’m sipping my coffee and reading about President Donald Trump’s latest move, and I have to say, it’s a real head-scratcher. Apparently, after spending the morning at the Pentagon marking the 25th anniversary of the September 11th tragedy, Trump decided to post a 5-year-old video of himself telling January 6, 2021, rioters to go home after they violently stormed the Capitol building. I mean, who needs context, right? The video, which was posted in full on Trump’s Truth Social account, shows him repeating his false claim that he won the 2020 election, but also telling the rioters to go home, saying “We have to have peace. So go home, we love you, you’re very special.” Yeah, because that’s exactly what you want to hear when you’re in the middle of a riot – a warm and fuzzy message from the president.
It’s interesting to note that a White House spokesperson said Trump reposted the video as “a reminder to everyone that what the Democrats did to weaponize the justice system against President Trump has been debunked thoroughly.” However, it’s unclear what cases they were referencing, especially since the criminal case against Trump concerning the Capitol attack was dismissed due to his win in the 2024 election. You can’t help but wonder what’s going on behind the scenes.
Trump has been talking a lot about voter fraud lately, and it’s getting to the point where it’s like, okay, we get it. He’s been accusing Democrats of cheating in elections without providing any evidence, which is a pretty serious claim. At the GOP midterm convention, he even told the audience to “cheat like hell” to help Republicans keep control of Congress. I’m not sure what’s more surprising, the fact that he said that or the fact that people are still listening to it.
The January 6 video that Trump posted is about a minute long, and it was widely panned when it first came out. People thought it was too little, too late, and that it was overly sympathetic to the rioters. It’s not like Trump is trying to stir up controversy or anything. He also posted several other things about the midterm convention around the same time, because why not? It’s not like he’s trying to distract us from anything.
In conclusion, it’s been a wild ride reading about Trump’s latest antics, and I’m not sure what to make of it all. It’s like he’s trying to keep himself in the news, no matter what. The fact that he posted a 5-year-old video of himself telling rioters to go home is just bizarre, and the fact that he’s still talking about voter fraud without evidence is even more bizarre. As I finish my coffee, I’m left thinking that you just can’t make this stuff up, and that’s what makes politics so entertaining. With a sigh and a shake of my head, I’ll just say that it’s been another interesting day in the world of politics.
