Oh great SCOTUS tells Trump to take a seat

I’m sipping my coffee and reading about the latest news on President Donald Trump, and folks, this one is a doozy. The Supreme Court has declined to take up an appeal from Trump over a $5 million verdict and finding that he sexually abused and defamed E. Jean Carroll, a magazine columnist. I mean, you can’t make this stuff up – the highest court in the land is essentially saying, “Yeah, you’re on your own with this one, Donald.” Carroll sued Trump in 2019 for defamation and then again in 2022 for defamation and battery, and it seems like the courts are not buying Trump’s denials.

Now, I know some people might say, “Big Elephant, why are you making light of this serious issue?” And believe me, I’m not. But when you read about the “Access Hollywood tape” and Trump’s, ahem, interesting comments about women, you can’t help but raise an eyebrow. I mean, who talks like that? The tape, which was recorded in 2005, features Trump saying some pretty inflammatory things about women, including that he can “do anything” to them because he’s a star. Bless their hearts, I guess.

Anyway, back to the case at hand. The 2nd US Circuit Court of Appeals had already affirmed the jury’s $5 million verdict against Trump, and now the Supreme Court has declined to review the case. Trump’s attorneys are still trying to fight the $83 million judgment against him, but it’s not looking good. Somewhere in Atlanta, a producer thought this sounded terrifying, and I’m sure we’ll be hearing more about it on the news for weeks to come.

The “Access Hollywood tape” was played during the trial, and Trump’s attorneys argued that it shouldn’t have been allowed as evidence. But the judge said it was relevant to the case, and the jury apparently agreed. You have to wonder what Trump’s team was thinking when they tried to appeal this one. Did they really think the Supreme Court would overturn the verdict? I guess we’ll never know.

The good news for E. Jean Carroll is that she’ll likely be getting her $5 million relatively quickly, since Trump transferred the money to a court-controlled account in 2023. And who knows, maybe she’ll even get the additional $83 million that the jury awarded her. One thing’s for sure, though: this case is far from over.

In conclusion, it’s been a wild ride reading about this case, and I’m sure it’s far from over. The Supreme Court’s decision is a big deal, and it’s going to have implications for Trump’s presidency and beyond. As I finish my coffee and wrap up this article, I have to say: you can’t make this stuff up, folks. The drama, the intrigue, the “Access Hollywood tape” – it’s all just a little too much. And on that note, I’ll leave you with this: I hope Trump’s attorneys have a good coffee budget, because they’re going to need it to stay awake during all these appeals.
