Smashing Pumpkins Frontman Billy Corgan Praises Sphere Artists Talent

Billy Corgan has expressed his admiration for artists who can perform at the Las Vegas Sphere, stating that he has “mad respect” for anyone who can play the venue. He also shared his vision for a potential Smashing Pumpkins show at the Sphere, describing it as a “goth winter” experience. Earlier this year, Corgan mentioned that a Smashing Pumpkins show at the Sphere would be “a no-doubter for us,” but noted that they hadn’t been asked yet.

Smashing Pumpkins’ Potential Show at the Sphere

Corgan spoke to Consequence on the red carpet at the Songwriters Hall of Fame ceremony, where he helped induct KISS‘s Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley. He clarified that he’s not “begging for a gig” at the Sphere, but believes that his band could deliver a unique experience. Corgan praised artists like No Doubt, Eagles, and U2 for their successful performances at the venue, saying “I’m really impressed by anybody who can play the Sphere because it’s a heavy lift.” He also mentioned that Phish has done a great job at the venue.

Future Opportunities for the Smashing Pumpkins

Corgan believes that there’s a possibility for more bands to get Sphere-like opportunities in the future, especially with the construction of new Sphere venues in Dubai and London. He thinks that once these new venues are operational, the system will “loosen up” and allow more bands to perform. In the meantime, Smashing Pumpkins will be embarking on their “The Rats in a Cage Tour” this fall to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.

Upcoming Projects and Collaborations

In addition to their tour, Smashing Pumpkins will be featured in an upcoming tribute LP, Sending Hearts to All My Dearies, which includes contributions from artists like Tame Impala, Des Rocs, Alice Glass, and Nita Strauss. The album is set to be released digitally on August 14th and on vinyl on October 16th. Corgan also recently revealed that the band has reunited with producer Butch Vig for the first time since 1993’s Gish, working on a new track expected to be released later this year.

In conclusion, Billy Corgan and Smashing Pumpkins are looking forward to their upcoming tour and projects, and are eager to see what the future holds for their music. With their unique sound and theatrical live performances, they are sure to continue to entertain and inspire their fans for years to come.
