So, it turns out that Lustmord and Lombardo met backstage at a FANTÔMAS show, introduced by mutual friend Buzz Osborne, around the time that Lustmord and MELVINS released their collaborative album. Yeah, because that’s exactly how these things happen – a chance meeting backstage, and the next thing you know, you’re creating ambient electronic music that sounds like the birth and death of the universe. 🤯 Nearly two decades later, Lombardo and Lustmord convened as LUSTMORD LOMBARDO, crafting an album that is as cold and distant as it is frantic and engaging. Because, you know, that’s exactly what the world needed – more cold and distant music to match the cold and distant void that is our existence. 🌌
The Sound of Planets Dying
Lustmord explains that the album is trying to create something that has its own sound, not tapping into whatever musical language or history you’re familiar with. Uh-huh, because that’s exactly what I want – music that sounds like nothing I’ve ever heard before, like the sound of planets dying or stars being born. 🌠 I mean, who needs melody or structure when you can have the sound of the universe imploding? 🤯
Lombardo adds that he’s very proud of this collaboration because it’s so different from anything else that he’s done. Yeah, no kidding – I’m sure his work with SLAYER and FANTÔMAS was just a warm-up for this ambient electronic masterpiece. 🤘 And to create this body of work with Lustmord – this guy is legendary! He rattles the plaster off of venues. 🎸 Okay, maybe not literally, but you get the idea.
The Pulse of Atoms
The debut album, “The Pulse Of Atoms”, is set to release on Oct. 2 via Ipecac Recordings, and we can’t wait to get our hands on it. 🎉 I mean, who wouldn’t want to listen to music that sounds like the birth and death of the universe? 🌊 It’s like the ultimate existential crisis in audio form. The album showcases an unheard side of Lombardo and brings Lustmord back to his industrial roots. Because, you know, that’s exactly what we needed – more industrial music to remind us of the bleakness of our industrialized society. 🏭
Rather than composing songs in a traditional sense, Lustmord built evolving walls and vortices of sound, leaving room for Lombardo to add percussion and various synthesizer layers. Yeah, because that’s exactly how music is made – by building walls and vortices of sound. 🌪️ And once the editing and arrangement was complete, Lustmord mixed and mastered the record, which was a balancing act between the two players’ large, loud musical presences. 🎧 I mean, it’s not like they just threw a bunch of sounds together and hoped for the best. 🙄
