Because apparently retirement is just a suggestion, Paul Heaton is back with a vengeance, scoring his first-ever solo No.1 album and announcing a slew of shows in the UK and Ireland for summer 2027. I mean, who needs a break when you can keep on rocking, right? The man is a machine, and I’m not sure if he’s running on coffee, adrenaline, or a combination of both, but I’m here for it. His band will feature special guest singer Rianne Downey, because one person can’t possibly handle all that talent and charisma alone. Heaton will be playing his first-ever headline show at Leeds Headingley Stadium, which is a big deal, folks. I mean, it’s not every day you get to play a stadium, unless you’re Paul Heaton, in which case, it’s just another Tuesday.
The Never-Ending Tour
Paul Heaton’s summer of shows will kick off with a headline appearance at Warrington’s Neighbourhood Weekender on Saturday, 29 May 2027. Because, you know, he hasn’t been touring non-stop for the past few decades or anything. He’ll also be playing two arena dates in Belfast and Dublin, because why not? The man is a legend, and legends don’t take breaks. They just keep on touring, releasing new music, and making the rest of us mere mortals feel like we’re not doing enough with our lives. Lightning Seeds will be joining him as special guest support on all Irish dates, because Ian Broudie and Paul Heaton are basically the dynamic duo of British music.
New Music, Who Dis?
Heaton’s new album, Jenius, is his 23rd album, and it’s a doozy. Produced by the legendary Ian Broudie, it features 15 new original songs, performed by Paul and his band with Rianne Downey on vocals. I mean, the man is a genius, and the title of the album is not just a clever play on words. Jenius is a masterpiece, and if you don’t believe me, just ask the people who have been listening to his music for the past 40 years. The album comes almost exactly 40 years since his first album, London 0 Hull 4, which is just a nice reminder that Paul Heaton has been doing this for a very long time.
The Farewell Tour That Never Was
Heaton’s live shows will feature songs from throughout his career, including classic tracks by The Beautiful South and The Housemartins. Because, you know, the man has a back catalog that’s just begging to be played live. And let’s be real, folks, this is not a farewell tour. Oh no, this is just another tour, in a long line of tours, that will eventually lead to another tour, and another, and another. The farewell tour count has officially entered scientific notation, and I’m not sure if we’ll ever see the end of it. But hey, who’s complaining? Not me, that’s for sure.
Tickets, Tickets, Everywhere
Tickets for UK dates go on general sale Friday, 4 September at 9:30 am, and you can bet your bottom dollar that they’ll sell out faster than you can say “Paul Heaton is a legend.” Tickets for Ireland will be available via various ticketing websites, and I’m sure they’ll be gone in a flash. Heaton’s upcoming autumn UK arena tour is almost completely sold out, but don’t worry, you can still get tickets for Nottingham Motorpoint Arena on 10 November if you’re quick. Or, you know, you can just wait for the next tour, and the next, and the next. Somewhere, a record label executive felt a disturbance in the royalties, and music historians are preparing fresh shelves for the box set. It’s just another day in the life of Paul Heaton, the man who never stops making music. Nobody truly retires in this industry, they merely wait for the 40th anniversary edition, and the remaster economy remains undefeated. Nature is healing, and another deluxe edition has appeared, but we wouldn’t have it any other way.
