Primus recruits Death Angel vocalist because why not

Death Angel Metal Frenzy 2018 34

Oh boy, are you guys ready for some epic news? 🤯 I just found out that Mark Osegueda, the vocalist of Death Angel and Kerry King’s BFF, joined Primus on stage at the Dynamo Metalfest in Eindhoven, The Netherlands to perform a cover of the Dio classic “Holy Diver”! I mean, who doesn’t love a good Dio cover, am I right? 😴 Anyway, this happened on Saturday, August 15, and I’m still trying to pick my jaw up from the floor. I guess this is what they mean by ” metal heaven”.

So, apparently, Primus has a studio cover version of “Holy Diver” on their “A Handful Of Nuggs” EP, which was released in May. Because, you know, the world was just missing a Primus cover of a Dio song. 🙄 And, fun fact, this rendition was sung by Puddles Pity Party, the singing clown persona of Michael Geier. Because, why not? 🤡

The “Holy Diver” Legacy

Written by the late metal icon Ronnie James Dio, “Holy Diver” was the lead single and title track to his namesake band Dio’s 1983 debut album. I mean, who doesn’t know this song? It’s like the metal equivalent of a participation trophy – everyone gets one! 🏆 And, of course, it was a platinum-certified smash and one of the late singer-songwriter’s most groundbreaking achievements. Because, you know, selling a lot of records is always a measure of greatness. 🤑

But, seriously, “Holy Diver” is a metal classic, and it’s great to see it still getting love after all these years. I mean, four years ago, Rhino revisited this epic metal moment on “Holy Diver: Super Deluxe Edition”, which is now available as a four-CD boxed set ($59.98) and digitally. Because, you know, who doesn’t want to spend $60 on a bunch of CDs? 🤑 And, hey, it comes with two versions of “Holy Diver” – a new mix of the album made by Joe Barresi (Tool, Queens of the Stone Age, Slipknot) and a newly remastered version of the original 1983 mix. Because, you know, one version is never enough. 🙄

More “Holy Diver” Than You Can Handle

The “Super Deluxe Edition” also features unreleased live performances and outtakes, along with a selection of rarities from the era. Because, you know, who doesn’t love a good bunch of random bonus tracks? 🤷‍♂️ And, hey, if you’re feeling extra metal, you can check out the fan-filmed video of Mark Osegueda’s appearance with Primus below. I mean, it’s not like you have anything better to do, right? 😴

So, there you have it – Mark Osegueda joining Primus on stage to perform a cover of “Holy Diver”. I mean, it’s not like this is the most exciting news ever, but hey, it’s something. 🤷‍♂️ And, who knows, maybe this will inspire a whole new generation of metalheads to pick up their guitars and start playing some power chords. Or, you know, maybe not. 😂 Either way, it’s always great to see some good old-fashioned metal nostalgia, so let’s all just take a moment to appreciate the greatness that is “Holy Diver”. 🤘
