HBO Drops New Harry Potter Teaser Trailer

HBO Drops New Harry Potter Teaser Trailer

The new trailer for HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone features a lot of very familiar sights for longtime fans of the books and movies. The new trailer also reveals more of the expensive-looking special effects used to bring the story of the first book to life, as well as plenty of details about Hogwarts life that were left on the cutting room floor when Chris Columbus directed the original movie in 2001.

Additionally, there’s evidence that the series will not be strictly told from Harry’s point of view (as seen in the scene featuring the Weasley family), and an opportunity to see the full cast attempt to make the roles their own.

This includes young Harry (Dominic McLaughlin) being uncertain, his new friend Hermione (Arabella Stanton) being bossy, Professor Dumbledore (John Lithgow) being austere, Professor McGonagall (Janet McTeer) being stern, and Professor Snape (Paapa Essiedu) being mean to Harry. All of those adult actors have faced questions about their involvement in the series, which launches under the cloud of author/executive producer J.K. Rowling’s fervent anti-trans activism.
