I’m sipping my coffee and reading about this horrific crime in Pittsburgh, where a pediatrician, Dr. Idris Evans, was fatally stabbed and his wife was critically injured in their bed after midnight on Thursday. The suspect, 32-year-old Elijah Hemingway, was arrested and faces multiple charges, including criminal homicide, aggravated assault, and burglary. I mean, what’s wrong with people these days? Folks, this is just terrifying.
The police investigation is ongoing, and they’re still trying to figure out the motive behind the stabbing. It’s just shocking that someone could commit such a heinous crime. The victim’s wife and two young children, ages 8 and 12, were also home at the time of the incident, but thankfully, they were able to escape and find safety at a neighbor’s house.
According to the complaint, Hemingway entered the Evans’ home through a back window and went to the couple’s third-floor bedroom, where he allegedly began stabbing them in their bed. The couple tried to fight back, and Evans’ wife told their children to flee to a neighbor’s house. She also told police that Hemingway made several “utterances about ‘God'” and said he was “God” during the attack.
It turns out that Hemingway has a history of criminal charges in Allegheny County since 2016, including burglary, theft, and battery. He was also arrested in Florida last year on charges of domestic battery and resisting arrest. You can’t make this stuff up, folks. This guy has a serious history of violent behavior, and it’s just tragic that it ended in the death of an innocent person.
The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, where Dr. Evans worked, released a statement remembering him as a compassionate doctor who cared for many children and saved countless lives. His colleagues described him as a “true angel on Earth,” and it’s clear that he will be deeply missed.
As I finish reading this article, I’m just left with a sense of sadness and frustration. How could someone commit such a senseless act of violence? And what’s the point of it all? It’s just a reminder that there’s still so much evil in this world, and we need to be vigilant and look out for each other. Anyway, that’s my two cents on this horrific crime.
