More Shows To Forget Exist In A Week Because TV Is Endless Now

This week, we’re being treated to a whole new batch of TV shows and streaming series, because what we really needed was more content to sift through. Every week, ScreenCrush gives you the rundown on the best new streaming TV shows, and this week is no exception. If you’re looking for a new series to stream, or you need a last-minute binge, or you’re just trying to keep up with the latest seasons of old favorites, we’ve got you covered. We love movies, but sometimes you just want to commit to a long-term relationship with a TV show, you know? Sometimes you want that deep dive that’s going to take days or weeks to finish, and sometimes you just need a good TV show to fill the void.

Regardless of what kind of show you’re looking for — new or returning, drama or comedy, high or lowbrow — we’ve got you covered. Here’s this week’s batch of new TV shows and series, just in time to clutter up your watchlist and make you wonder where all the time went. This week, you can watch Marvel’s latest live-action TV series, a much-anticipated horror prequel, and the return of two very popular dramas — one on Netflix, the other on Paramount+. Get your watchlist and queues ready, and if you want even more recent streaming TV recs, be sure to check out our other coverage.

New TV Shows to Obsess Over

In this week’s batch of new TV shows, we’ve got a few highlights that are worth mentioning. First up, there’s VisionQuest, the follow-up to Marvel’s WandaVision, where Paul Bettany returns as the Avenging android the Vision. He’s trying to reconcile his new form and confused memories while searching for his son and confronting his own “father,” the evil AI Ultron (James Spader). Because what’s a Marvel show without a healthy dose of family drama? VisionQuest premieres on October 13 on Disney+, because of course it does.

Next, we’ve got Crystal Lake, the A24ification of Friday the 13th, where the emphasis shifts from Jason Voorhees back to the franchise’s original monster: Jason’s mother Pamela, played by Linda Cardellini. Because who doesn’t want to watch a show about a mom who’s just a little bit crazy? Crystal Lake premieres on October 15 on Peacock, and I’m sure it’ll be a real treat.

Returning Favorites and New Horrors

We’ve also got the return of Tulsa King, Sylvester Stallone’s hit mob drama, which is back for its fourth season on Paramount+. This year, Dwight fights to legitimize his empire and protect his crew, because that’s not a tired trope at all. And if you’re looking for something a little more dramatic, there’s The Diplomat, which is back for its fourth season on Netflix. The show follows Kate Wyler as she tries to broker peace between the US and UK, while also navigating her crumbling marriage. Because who doesn’t love a good political drama?

We’ve also got Tyson, a four-part documentary series about the life and times of Mike Tyson, because who doesn’t want to watch a show about a boxer who bit someone’s ear off? The series premieres on October 13 on Netflix, and I’m sure it’ll be a real knockout.

As I sit here, writing about the latest batch of TV shows and streaming series, I’m reminded of the age-old question: what’s the point of it all? Is it just to churn out content and make a quick buck, or is it to actually create something meaningful and lasting? Maybe I’m just tired, but it feels like we’re just spinning our wheels, churning out the same old familiar franchises and reboots, instead of taking risks and trying something new. Ah well, at least the Merchandising Department is happy.
