Folks, I almost spilled my coffee reading about the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool’s latest saga. It seems the Trump administration has brought in a company called Greenwater Services to install a $1.7 million “ozone nanobubbler” to clean up the pool’s water. This fancy technology shoots 500 million microscopic bubbles into every teaspoon of water, which is supposed to oxidize algae, bacteria, and other chemicals. I mean, who doesn’t love a good sci-fi solution to a real-world problem? The company’s president, Chas Antinone, claims the system is working, but I’m not sure if that’s just a bunch of hot air.
The Reflecting Pool has been a bit of a mess for decades, with algae and bacteria making the water look more like a swamp than a reflective pool. The Trump administration has touted the ozone nanobubbler technology as “state of the art,” but it’s never been formally used or researched on a pool before. Bless their hearts for trying, I suppose. The company, Greenwater Services, is based in Brookfield, Ohio, and has been working with the Trump administration to get the pool cleaned up in time for the July Fourth celebrations.
Now, I’m no expert, but it seems like there are a lot of variables at play here. The pool’s pipes are old and need to be repaired or replaced, which could affect the effectiveness of the ozone nanobubbler. And let’s not forget the whole “no-bid contract” thing, which always raises some eyebrows. The company’s co-owner, J.J. Cafaro, has a bit of a shady past, having pleaded guilty to conspiracy to bribe a congressman back in 2001. But hey, maybe he’s turned over a new leaf?
The timeline for the project has been a bit rushed, with the company trying to get the pool cleaned up by July. They’ve had to bring in temporary equipment to get the system running, and there have been some issues with the algae returning. But Antinone is optimistic, saying that the system is working and that they’re learning as they go. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see if this fancy technology actually does the trick.
As I was reading about this, I couldn’t help but think that maybe, just maybe, this is all a bit of a distraction from the bigger issues at hand. I mean, who needs clean water when you’ve got politics to worry about? But hey, at least the Reflecting Pool will look nice for the tourists, right?
In all seriousness, it’s interesting to see the science behind the ozone nanobubbler technology. According to Heather Raymond, the water quality director for the Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, the technology has an effectiveness rate in the 90th percentile. That’s pretty impressive, if you ask me. And who knows, maybe this will be the solution to all our water pollution problems. A guy can dream, right?
As the story continues to unfold, I’ll be keeping an eye on it. Will the ozone nanobubbler technology succeed in cleaning up the Reflecting Pool? Only time will tell. But one thing’s for sure – it’s been an entertaining ride so far. And who knows, maybe one day we’ll have pools that are so clean, you can drink the water. Wouldn’t that be something?
