Thiel Claims Pope moonlighting for Chinese Communists apparently

I’m sipping my coffee and reading about Peter Thiel’s latest remarks at the Aspen Ideas Festival in Colorado, and I have to say, folks, this guy is something else. He’s warning about the dangers of artificial intelligence and the West, and even went so far as to accuse Pope Leo XIV of being a “Chinese communist agent” because of his calls for AI regulation. I mean, that’s quite a statement. Thiel thinks that the Pope’s message will only slow down the US in the “race” to advance AI, while China will just keep on trucking. And let me tell you, the audience at the festival seemed to enjoy his characterization of the Pope as a Chinese agent – they actually laughed about it.

Thiel, the co-founder of Palantir and PayPal, has been making some interesting arguments lately. He’s been talking about the “end of history” and how Western democracy is in danger. He even warned about a “democratic-socialist takeover” of the Democratic Party, which is a pretty bold claim. And get this – he thinks that the Republican Party doesn’t matter that much, and that when the Democratic Party goes, the country is over. That’s a pretty dire prediction, if you ask me.

But what’s really interesting is Thiel’s take on the American Revolution. He thinks it was a revolt against the British parliament, not just King George III. And he believes that the US Constitution was designed to be a corrective to Britain’s “tyrannical rule of lawyers.” He even compared the European Union to a stagnant, rule-bound bureaucracy, where people are just “NPCs” – non-player characters in video games – with no power to make decisions. That’s a pretty scathing critique, if you ask me.

Thiel also talked about Palantir, the software company he co-founded, and its close relationship with US federal agencies. He claims that the company is “not joined at the hip” with the “US deep state,” and that its leaders are “loyal-dissident-type people.” And get this – he thinks that the influence wielded by tech companies is “one of the things that’s really healthy about the US,” because it means that power is distributed across the country. That’s a pretty interesting perspective, if you ask me.

Now, I’m not sure what to make of Thiel’s claim that Anthropic, an AI firm, will “rig the elections in 2028” in support of Democrats. That’s a pretty wild accusation, if you ask me. And it’s even more interesting that he thinks that Anthropic will use its AI models to “completely outwit” any ideological efforts Elon Musk might make in the opposite direction. That’s a pretty bold prediction, if you ask me.

As I finish my coffee, I have to say that Peter Thiel is certainly an interesting guy. He’s got a lot of opinions, and he’s not afraid to share them. And even if you don’t agree with him, you have to admit that he’s thought-provoking. So, the next time you’re sipping your coffee and reading about the latest tech news, just remember – there are some pretty wild characters out there, and Peter Thiel is definitely one of them.
