Taxpayers' Favorite Reflecting Pool Gets Another Free Renovation

Folks, I’m sipping my coffee and reading about the latest shenanigans at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, where three more people have been charged with destruction of property. I mean, who wouldn’t want a piece of that historic blue paint, right? Cameron Thiers, Sophie Dennison-Gibby, and Justin Carreno were detained by officers, who witnessed them peeling and removing pieces of the paint from the Reflecting Pool. Because, you know, that’s exactly what you do on a Saturday afternoon – vandalize national landmarks.

Apparently, the officers had their body cameras rolling, capturing all the excitement, including Carreno reaching down into the pool and pulling up a piece of the blue paint. I’m sure it was a real thrill-ride. And, of course, Dennison-Gibby had an extra piece of the reflecting pool liner in her purse, because why not? The officers from various states, including Texas, Oklahoma, Montana, and California, were all involved in detaining these three individuals.

Now, I’m no expert, but it seems like these folks might have made some poor life choices. Thiers even admitted to removing a piece of blue sealant from the Reflecting Pool and still had it in his hand when the officer approached him. I guess that’s what they mean by “caught red-handed.” The three defendants were arraigned in court and pleaded not guilty to the misdemeanor charges, with a potential fine of up to $1,000 and 180 days in jail if found guilty.

It’s worth noting that President Donald Trump has been claiming that vandals caused major damage to the pool, but the officers didn’t accuse these three of gashing the lining. Meanwhile, former Olympic canoeist David Hearn was indicted for allegedly damaging the Reflecting Pool and faces more serious charges. And, in a separate incident, crews began draining the Reflecting Pool to make repairs, because, well, it’s been a bit of a mess lately.

As I finish my coffee, I have to wonder what’s next for these would-be thieves. Will they get off scot-free, or will they face the music? Either way, it’s been an entertaining ride, and I’m sure the Reflecting Pool will be back to its old self in no time. After all, as they say, “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade” – or in this case, when life gives you a vandalized Reflecting Pool, just drain it and start over. 🙄
