I’m sipping my coffee and reading about President Donald Trump’s latest claims, and folks, I almost spilled my coffee reading this one. Apparently, Trump has been telling the same tale for three consecutive presidential campaigns about being named “Man of the Year” in Michigan, a state he’s particularly fond of visiting. Now, I’m no fact-checker, but it seems that CNN and other media outlets have repeatedly pointed out that this award doesn’t actually exist. You can’t make this stuff up, right? Trump claimed he received this non-existent award 25 years ago, and that the media initially questioned it, but eventually found out it was true. Yeah, sure.
I mean, come on, Trump has been telling this story for years, and nobody has ever been able to find any evidence to back it up. The state of Michigan doesn’t give out a “Man of the Year” award, and Trump has never lived in the state. It’s like he just pulled this out of thin air. And the best part is, he’s still telling the same story, even though it’s been debunked multiple times. Somewhere in Atlanta, a producer thought this sounded terrifying, I’m sure.
Now, I know some of you might be thinking, “But Big Elephant, what about the time Trump received a ‘Man of the Decade’ award from a Republican group in Michigan?” Well, bless their hearts, that’s not what Trump is talking about here. He’s still claiming he got a “Man of the Year” award decades ago. And let’s not forget, in previous tellings of this story, he’s placed the supposed honor in different time periods, so it’s hard to keep track of what he’s actually saying.
I did find it interesting that a former Republican congressman in Michigan, Dave Trott, has a theory about where this story might have come from. Apparently, Trump spoke at a Republican dinner in Michigan back in 2013, and Trott thinks that might be where Trump got the idea for his “Man of the Year” claim. But Trott is quick to point out that nobody gave Trump any such award at that dinner. At least Trump has acknowledged that the idea of him receiving such an honor in Michigan before his time as a politician is a bit bewildering.
In conclusion, it’s just another day, another Trump tale that doesn’t quite add up. I’m not sure what’s more entertaining, the fact that he’s still telling this story or the fact that he thinks people will believe it. Either way, I’m just going to sit back, sip my coffee, and enjoy the show. And who knows, maybe someday we’ll find out what really happened to that “Man of the Year” award – or not. 😊
