Marvel’s ‘Wonder Man’: More Like ‘Blunder Man,’ Am I Right

Oh boy, buckle up buttercups 🪑, because Marvel’s dredging up another hero from the depths of comic book obscurity! Wonder Man, the dude so important he’s been chilling on the development shelf since, like, forever, is finally gracing our Disney+ screens. Get ready for a cinematic experience so mind-blowing 🤯, it might actually make you question your life choices.

So, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (who?) is playing Simon Williams, aka Wonder Man, a character so beloved ❤️ that most people need a Wikipedia deep-dive to remember who he is. Apparently, this show was teased in a Disney+ promo video, probably wedged between the 57th Star Wars spin-off and another live-action remake of a cartoon no one asked for. 🙄

If you’re *really* bored, you can check out the Disney+ 2025 preview. But don’t say I didn’t warn you when you find yourself questioning the very fabric of reality. 😵‍💫

Wonder Man, or Simon Williams for those who care, was cooked up by Stan Lee, Don Heck (who?), and Jack Kirby. He first showed up in *The Avengers* #9 as a villain. A VILLAIN, people! 😈 But don’t worry, they brought him back as a hero later because originality is for losers. And get this, his “brain patterns” were used to create the Vision. So basically, Vision is just a robot version of Wonder Man, which explains… absolutely nothing about their convoluted relationship with the Scarlet Witch. 💔

By day, he’s a Hollywood actor and stuntman. By night, he’s… well, still kind of a Hollywood actor, but with superpowers! ✨ The *Wonder Man* TV series is the brainchild of Destin Daniel Cretton (of *Shang-Chi* fame) and Andrew Guest. Ben Kingsley is back as Trevor Slattery, the struggling actor we all secretly love to hate. Ed Harris and Demetrius Grosse are also in the mix, with Grosse playing Simon’s brother, who’s usually the Grim Reaper. Family drama, am I right? 🎭

Marvel released a photo of Abdul-Mateen and Kingsley together. It’s… a photo. 📸 They’re standing there. Looking like they’re contractually obligated to be there. What more do you want? 🤷‍♀️

Development on this masterpiece started in the summer of 2022, and filming began in the spring of 2023. Then, the Hollywood strikes happened, because even the universe knew this show needed a delay. And to add insult to injury, a crew member died during filming. Talk about bad luck! 💀

*Wonder Man* is scheduled to drop in late 2025 on Disney+. It’ll have eight episodes, which is probably eight episodes too many. But hey, who am I to judge? Maybe it’ll be the surprise hit of the century. Or maybe it’ll be another forgettable addition to the ever-growing pile of Marvel content. Only time will tell! ⏳
