Honkai Star Rail Invasion: Epic Crossover Chaos Hits Fortnite, Version 4.0 Drops Sooner Than You Can Say “Genshin Who?”

Two titanic forces of live-service gaming are finally crashing into each other like two oblivious shoppers at a buffet, as a collaboration between Honkai Star Rail and Fortnite is officially happening. Honestly, it’s almost criminal this hasn’t happened sooner. It’s like finding out peanut butter and jelly just met last week.

The collaboration will introduce two of Honkai’s most iconic characters to the battle royale battlefield: Kafka and Blade. These two will make their grand entrance on February 26, bringing “their unique character flair and combat prowess” to Fortnite players worldwide. Which is corporate-speak for “they’ll look cool while you get sniped by a 12-year-old with a pickaxe.”

However, beyond knowing these two are showing up, the details are about as scarce as a Fortnite player with self-respect. No word on exclusive back bling, Honkai-inspired modes, or LEGO versions of the characters (though let’s be real, everything eventually gets a LEGO version). It’s entirely possible Epic is holding back information like a cat with a laser pointer, teasing us until we’re all hopelessly addicted to whatever they’re about to drop.

Interestingly, this announcement conveniently coincides with an Epic Games Store promotion. Download Honkai Star Rail on the Epic Games Store, and you’ll get the Blade outfit for free. It’s almost as if Epic is using Honkai to boost their store metrics while simultaneously using Fortnite to boost Honkai downloads. It’s a beautiful symbiotic relationship, like a remora fish and a shark, if the remora fish occasionally built massive structures in 30 seconds.

And this isn’t the only collaboration Epic is shoving in our faces this week. They’ve also announced wave 2 of KPop Demon Hunters, featuring Huntrix Golden skins and Jinu. Because apparently, what Fortnite really needed was more skins that make you question your life choices when you die to them.

The Honkai collaboration arrives hot on the heels of version 4.0, “No Aha at Full Moon,” which released on February 13. This update transports players to the new region of Planarcadia and introduces two new party members: Yao Guang and Sparxie. The update’s story sounds like something written by a committee of philosophy majors after three energy drinks: “Once upon a time in a paradise within the painted scroll, the vacant divine throne smiled, awaiting those who seek godhood to don their masks and entertain the masses.” It’s like Dune met Alice in Wonderland at a cosplay convention.

You can check out the trailer below, which probably features more lens flare than a J.J. Abrams movie and enough dramatic posing to make a runway model jealous.

Honkai Star Rail is available on PS5, PC, Android, and iOS. So no matter what platform you’ve chosen to slowly ruin your productivity, there’s an option for you to join in on this crossover madness. Just don’t blame us when you find yourself spending hours grinding for that perfect skin while your responsibilities gather dust in the corner. We warned you.
