I’m sipping my coffee and reading about the latest news, folks, and it seems like we’ve got another incident involving ICE. A person was killed on Monday in an ICE-involved shooting in Biddeford, Maine, according to the state’s speaker of the house. Now, I’m not one to jump to conclusions, but it does seem like we’re seeing a bit of a pattern here, especially after that federal agent fatally shot a Mexican immigrant during a traffic stop in Houston just a few days ago. I mean, you can’t help but wonder what’s going on.
Now, let’s get to the details. Maine House Speaker Ryan Fecteau took to Facebook to share what he knows so far. He said, “A person was killed. ICE was involved. State Police and the Department of Public Safety are now on scene to gather details and would expect the FBI to investigate as well.” Well, bless their hearts for trying to get to the bottom of this. I’m sure it’s not an easy situation to navigate.
I’ve got to say, the way CNN is reporting this, it sounds like they’re trying to make it sound like the end of the world. Somewhere in Atlanta, a producer thought this sounded terrifying, and now we’ve got a big story on our hands. But, in all seriousness, it’s good that they’re covering it, because we need to know what’s going on. And I’ve got to give it to Speaker Fecteau – at least he’s being transparent and saying he’ll provide updates as he gets them.
CNN has reached out to Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Department of Homeland Security for comment, but I’m not holding my breath. I mean, it’s not like they’re going to come out and say something drastic, like “yes, we messed up.” Although, that would be nice for a change.
In conclusion, it’s been a wild few days with these ICE-involved shootings, and I’m just hoping we can get some answers soon. The fact that a person was killed in Maine, and another in Houston, just days apart, is certainly concerning. And on a lighter note, I’m just glad I didn’t spill my coffee while reading about all this drama – that would’ve been a real tragedy.
