Fire In The Mountains is one of them.
Our journey began in Charlotte, North Carolina. We flew west to Salt Lake City, connected to Spokane, Washington, spent the night there, and picked up a rental car for the final stretch into Montana.
The road quickly became part of the adventure. We crossed Idaho, stopped at the spectacular Kootenai Falls Suspension Bridge, and eventually reached East Glacier Park, Montana—our home throughout the festival.
Set against the Rocky Mountains on the edge of Glacier National Park, Fire In The Mountains is unlike any other music festival. It's remote, intimate, breathtaking, and feels more like a pilgrimage than a weekend event.
Then nature changed the script.
On the festival's second day, smoke from massive Canadian wildfires drifted south into Montana. The sky turned a deep reddish-orange, transforming the mountains into an almost Martian landscape. It was surreal, beautiful, and slightly apocalyptic—all at the same time.
Another thing that makes Fire In The Mountains unique is that it's a completely alcohol-free festival, out of respect for the local Blackfeet Nation and the land where the event takes place.
So before leaving Spokane, we made one final "essential" stop: the liquor store.
Our rental car carried enough bottles and cans to keep our hotel room in East Glacier Park well supplied throughout the trip.
Mission accomplished.
By the time we headed home, not a single bottle or can had survived. 🍻
