CD Projekt Red and TRIGGER have finally given us a glimpse of what’s to come in the second season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m more than a little excited. I mean, who wouldn’t want to dive back into the neon-drenched world of Night City, where the only thing more plentiful than cybernetic enhancements is the corruption and decay? The new trailer gives us a deeper look at the eclectic cast of characters and the tone this season might be going for, and I’m happy to report that it looks like more of the same great stuff that made the first season so compelling.
A New Cast of Characters to Fall in Love With
This season follows four main characters, each with their own unique story to tell. There’s Weak Kingsley, a veteran Edgerunner who’s seen better days; D, a Snake Nation netrunner with a score to settle; Roman Carax, a young cinephile searching for real stories in a city that’s lost its love for cinema; and Talia Yang, a corpo tower dweller with a heart of chrome and a penchant for violence. Each character has their own distinct personality and motivations, and I’m excited to see how their stories intersect and overlap throughout the season.
A Collaboration of Epic Proportions
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 is a collaboration between CD Projekt Red and the award-winning anime studio TRIGGER, which is responsible for some amazing shows like Kill la Kill and Promare. The scriptwriter of the first season, Masahiko Otsuka, is back for the second, and Kai Ikarashi is making his directorial debut. The producer and writer of the first season, Bartosz Sztybor, is also returning, which is great news for fans of the show. And, of course, the opening and ending theme songs are provided by The Cure and Petite Miller, respectively, because what’s a cyberpunk show without some great music to set the mood?
High Expectations Ahead of the Premiere
The first season of Edgerunners received rave reviews from critics and fans alike, with a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. That’s a tough act to follow, but if anyone can do it, it’s the team behind Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. The new season premieres on October 20, exclusively on Netflix, so mark your calendars and get ready to dive back into the world of Night City. And who knows, maybe we’ll even get some news about a potential third season, or maybe even a game tie-in (although, let’s be real, that’s probably just a pipe dream). Either way, I’m excited to see what’s in store for us in Season 2, and I’m sure I’m not alone.
As I always say, when it comes to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, you can’t have too much of a good thing. So, bring on the gritty charm, the complex characters, and the social commentary – I’m ready to dive back into Night City and see what kind of trouble I can get into. And who knows, maybe this season will even give us some answers to the questions we’ve been asking since the first season ended. A gamer can dream, right?
