Folks, I’m sipping my coffee and reading about GOP Rep. Max Miller, who’s having a bit of a rough week. He spent Monday morning Zooming into an Ohio courtroom, which is definitely not how I’d want to start my day. Miller is in a dispute with his ex-girlfriend, Stephanie Grisham, who used to be the White House press secretary. This is the second time in less than a week that Miller has had to appear in county court, and I’m starting to think he should just get a frequent visitor card.
So, Miller and Grisham had a settlement agreement back in 2023, which basically said they couldn’t disparage each other publicly. But, of course, that didn’t quite work out as planned. Miller is now running for re-election, and his personal and legal issues are making things a bit tricky for him. Some Senate Republicans are even calling for him to step down, but Speaker Mike Johnson is still supporting him, saying he’s “a great member of Congress.” I’m not sure what’s more surprising, the fact that Miller is still running or that Johnson thinks he’s a great member of Congress.
Miller is also in the middle of a custody battle with his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, who’s the daughter of GOP Sen. Bernie Moreno. She’s alleged that Miller abused her, including holding a gun to her when their daughter was an infant. Miller has denied all of these allegations, but it’s definitely not looking good for him. I mean, who needs this kind of drama in their life? Not me, that’s for sure.
The court case on Monday was all about whether Miller violated the settlement agreement with Grisham. He was asked about his social media habits, and let’s just say it was a bit of a mess. Miller claimed he didn’t post anything himself and that his staffers were responsible for the posts. He even said he doesn’t have social media on his cell phone, which is just hard to believe in this day and age. I mean, come on, who doesn’t have social media on their phone?
The judge eventually issued preliminary injunctions against both Miller and Grisham, telling them to take down some social media posts that could be seen as disparaging each other. Miller was also pressed about a post from his X account, where he shared audio of Emily Moreno discussing allegations Grisham made against him. Grisham’s lawyers argued that this was a breach of the agreement, and honestly, it’s hard to argue with that.
Grisham testified that Miller’s statements about her had a big impact on her personal and professional life. She said she suffered from worsening anxiety and often turned down TV appearances because she didn’t want to be asked about Miller. She even said it’s been “horrible,” which is just sad to hear. I feel for her, even if she is a public figure.
The whole thing is just a big mess, and I’m not sure how it’s all going to play out. Miller’s lawyer, Adam Brown, tried to argue that Grisham posted about Miller on social media, but she claimed it was actually about the Jeffrey Epstein controversy. I’m not sure what to believe, but it’s clear that both sides are playing a game of he-said-she-said.
In the end, the judge told both Miller and Grisham to behave themselves and stop posting about each other on social media. I’m not holding my breath, though. This whole thing has been a circus, and I’m just here for the popcorn. As I finish my coffee, I’m left thinking that politics is just a never-ending soap opera, and I’m not sure who’s going to come out on top in this one. 🙄
