And in August, only 5.2% of consumers said they planned to buy a home within the next six months, according to the Conference Board – the lowest reading in five years. I guess people are finally realizing that maybe buying a house isn’t the best idea right now. I mean, who wants to be stuck with a huge mortgage and high interest rates? Not me, that’s for sure.
It’s not like the news is all bad, though. I mean, some people might be thinking, “Hey, this is a great time to sell my house and make a profit!” But for those who are trying to buy, it’s a whole different story. The Conference Board’s survey found that people are just not confident in the housing market right now. And who can blame them? With mortgage rates soaring and prices still high, it’s a tough time to be a buyer.
