OH NO, ATREYU TOOK A BREAK AND NOW THEY’RE BACK AND STILL NOT BORED OF EACH OTHER!!! 🤯 I mean, can you believe it? A band that’s been around for almost 30 years and they still haven’t gotten tired of playing music together. What a miracle! At the Aftershock festival in Sacramento, California, Brandon Saller from ATREYU sat down with Baby Huey and Chasta from 107.7 The Bone to talk about the band’s three-year hiatus from 2011 to 2014. I guess they needed a break from each other or something, because who wouldn’t get tired of touring and playing music with the same people for years on end? 🙄
Brandon said that during the hiatus, he didn’t think the band would get back together, and that he “fricking bawled his eyes out” after their last show before the break. Aw, poor baby! But seriously, it’s kinda cool that they took a break and came back when they were ready to rock again. I mean, who needs music when you can just sit at home and collect dust, right? 🤷♂️
THE HIATUS: A NECESSARY EVIL?
Brandon explained that the hiatus was necessary for the band to recharge and refocus. He said that when you’re lucky enough to do music for a living, you don’t want to get to a point where you’re just going through the motions and uninspired. Yeah, because that would be terrible… said no one ever. But seriously, it’s nice that they prioritized their creative well-being and didn’t just phone it in. I guess that’s what separates the pros from the posers, huh? 🤘
During the hiatus, Brandon started another band called HELL OR HIGHWATER, which he said was an amazing experience that helped him grow as a musician. He even got to tour with bands like THE DARKNESS, AVENGED SEVENFOLD, and SLIPKNOT, which is pretty cool, I guess. I mean, who wouldn’t want to tour with a bunch of dudes in makeup and masks, right? 🤡
BRANDON’S NEW ROLE: SINGER EXTRAORDINAIRE
Brandon talked about how he used to play drums for ATREYU, but now he’s focusing on singing. He said it’s been a fun transition, and that he loves being closer to the audience and having a better connection with the fans. Yeah, because that’s what it’s all about: the fans, the fame, the fortune… and the free booze. 🍺
ATREYU’s latest album, “The End Is Not The End”, came out in April via Spinefarm, because you can never have too many albums with ominous titles. The band has had a pretty successful career, with multiple RIAA gold records and Top 20 Billboard 200 debuts. They’ve even had songs featured in movies and video games, because who doesn’t love a good gaming soundtrack? 🎮
In conclusion, ATREYU is still a thing, and they’re still making music. Who knew? 🙄 If you’re a fan of the band, you’re probably stoked that they’re back and still rocking. If you’re not a fan, well… there’s always something else to listen to, right? 🤷♂️
