Ministry Finally Runs Out of Midlife Crises

ministry retirement

Oh no, the world is ending: Ministry is breaking up… again 🤯. Al Jourgensen, the mastermind behind the industrial metal band, has announced that their upcoming album “Hate To Go (Take Out Or Delivery)” will be their last, and they’ll be embarking on a farewell tour in 2027. I mean, it’s not like we’ve heard this before or anything… 🙄. Apparently, Jourgensen has decided that 40 years of making music is enough, and he’s ready to hang up his guitar and pursue other interests… like being a history professor? 🤓

According to Jourgensen, “I figure it’s time. We’ve taken our genre and this band as far as we can go.” Yeah, because 17 studio albums, eight live releases, and eight side projects just aren’t enough 🙄. He also mentioned that he’s happy with the new album, but not enthusiastic about continuing to make music. I guess that’s what happens when you’re 68 years old and have been doing the same thing for four decades 🤷‍♂️.

The End of an Era

Ministry has been a pioneer of industrial music since 1981, with a history that includes 17 studio albums, eight live releases, and eight side projects. They’ve been nominated for six Grammy Awards and have had a significant impact on the music industry. But, as Jourgensen said, “I just think that Ministry has run its course.” It’s not like they’ve been relevant in the past few years or anything… 😴. I mean, who needs Ministry when you have… well, actually, I’m not sure who needs Ministry 🤔.

Jourgensen also talked about how he never wanted to be a musician in the first place, but got pulled into it by circumstance. He said, “I kind of felt like Michael Corleone in ‘Godfather 3’. Every time I try and get out, they pull me back in.” Yeah, because being a rock star is just soooo terrible 🙄. I’m sure it has nothing to do with the fact that he’s made a career out of it for 40 years 🤑.

The new album, “Hate To Go (Take Out Or Delivery)”, features a final collaboration with legacy member Paul Barker on the track “We’re Still Here”. Because, you know, it’s not a Ministry album without a little bit of nostalgia 🎉. The album also features the work of current Ministry bandmates, including guitarists Monte Pittman and Cesar Soto, bassist Paul D’Amour, sampler/synth player John Bechdel, and drummer Pepe Clarke Magaña.

The Farewell Tour

Ministry will be bringing their farewell tour to Europe and the US in 2027, with special guest Die Krupps. Because, you know, one last cash grab is always a good idea 💸. The “Goodbye Europe” tour starts in April 2027, and will be followed by a full US run. I’m sure it’ll be a wild ride, full of nostalgia and… well, more nostalgia 🎉.

In all seriousness, Ministry has had a significant impact on the music industry, and their farewell tour will likely be a bittersweet experience for fans. But let’s be real, we’ve heard this before, and I’m sure Jourgensen will be back with another album or project in a few years 🙄. Until then, we can just enjoy the nostalgia and pretend like we’re sad to see them go 😔.
