Folks, I almost spilled my coffee reading this one. A federal jury just found rapper Lil Durk not guilty of attempted killing for hire of rival rapper Quando Rondo at a Los Angeles gas station. I mean, what’s the world coming to? The jury deliberated for three days before acquitting Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Banks, of conspiracy, stalking resulting in death, and murder for hire. That’s a whole lot of serious charges to be acquitted of, if you ask me.
I was reading through the article, and I saw that Durk supporters, including music stars Machine Gun Kelly and Ye (formerly known as Kanye West), were in the audience during the two-week trial. I guess that’s what you call a celebrity endorsement. Big groups of fans, livestreamers, and other content creators gathered outside the courthouse, probably waiting to see what would happen to the Grammy-winning rapper.
Now, I’m not saying Lil Durk is innocent or guilty, but it’s interesting to note that his co-defendants, Deandre Wilson and David Lindsey, were convicted of conspiracy to commit stalking, stalking using a dangerous weapon, and stalking resulting in death. However, they were also acquitted of murder for hire, just like Lil Durk. It’s all a bit confusing, if you ask me.
The prosecution alleged that Lil Durk paid to have Rondo killed after someone from Rondo’s entourage fatally shot rapper King Von, a close friend of Durk’s, at an Atlanta nightclub in 2020. That’s a pretty serious motive for a crime, if you ask me. The prosecution also alleged that a group of men flew to Los Angeles with funds provided by Durk and followed Rondo and his crew around, eventually firing on his Escalade near the Beverly Center shopping mall in Los Angeles. Rondo survived, but his 24-year-old cousin, Saviay’a Robinson, was killed.
First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli said in a statement that the jury delivered justice to the family of Saviay’a Robinson, finding defendants Deandre Wilson and David Lindsey guilty of stalking resulting in Mr. Robinson’s death. However, he also expressed disappointment with the jury’s decision regarding Durk Banks, a.k.a. ‘Lil Durk.’ I guess you can’t win them all, right?
Lil Durk has had a pretty successful music career, winning a Grammy earlier this year for Best Melodic Rap Performance for “All My Life,” which features J. Cole. He’s also been nominated for three other Grammys and was a featured performer on Drake’s “Laugh Now Cry Later.” I guess you could say he’s had a good run, despite all the drama surrounding him.
In conclusion, the whole Lil Durk trial has been a wild ride, folks. With all the twists and turns, it’s been hard to keep up. But in the end, the jury has spoken, and Lil Durk has been acquitted of some serious charges. As I always say, you can’t make this stuff up. And on that note, I’m going to go refill my coffee cup, because this story has left me shaking my head in wonder.
