It’s time to get excited, gamers, because Enshrouded, the latest open-world survival game from Keen Games, is finally leaving Early Access and hitting 1.0 this October. And, let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride. After 505 Games pulled the plug on Portal Knights, Keen Games decided to go solo and publish Enshrouded themselves. And, boy, did it pay off. With over 3 million copies sold, this game has become a sensational success in a genre that’s crowded with the likes of Minecraft, Valheim, and Subnautica.
The Road to 1.0
As I sat down with Creative Director Antony Christoulakis at gamescom 2026, I had to ask: why now is the right time for Enshrouded to hit 1.0? His response was music to my ears. “We basically completed the game as we envisioned it,” he said. And, let me tell you, they’ve been busy. With eight major updates under their belt, they’ve added a ton of new content, including a final biome, new items, animals, weapons, and enemies. They’ve also reworked the terrain, points of interest, and even added a feedback board to make sure the community’s voice is heard.
Lessons Learned
So, what’s the biggest lesson learned from Enshrouded being in Early Access? Christoulakis was quick to point out that working with the community directly has been a game-changer. “We have full control over the game, and we can do what we want to do,” he said. And, it’s clear that they’re listening. With a closed beta going on in the Enshrouded Discord, they’re getting feedback from the community and incorporating it into the game. It’s a bold move, but it’s paid off.
Future Plans
But, what about the future? Are there any features that the community is clamoring for but Keen Games can’t or won’t add? Christoulakis was diplomatic in his response, saying that they’re always looking at how new features would fit into the game. And, it’s clear that they’re not afraid to take their time. Base invasions, for example, are still on the table, but they’re not rushing to implement them. “It’s a real struggle to pick the right things to do at the right time,” Christoulakis said.
Platform Parity
And, what about platform parity? Will the PlayStation version of Enshrouded have the same features as the PC version? Christoulakis was quick to reassure me that, yes, there will be feature parity. And, they’re planning to keep it that way, even as they expand to more platforms. It’s a bold move, but it’s one that will undoubtedly pay off.
As I wrapped up my conversation with Christoulakis, I couldn’t help but feel excited for the future of Enshrouded. With a solid game under their belt and a community that’s eager for more, Keen Games is poised to take the gaming world by storm. And, who knows, maybe we’ll even see an Xbox version or a Switch 2 port in the future. Stranger things have happened, right? One thing’s for sure, though: Enshrouded is a game that’s here to stay, and I’m excited to see where Keen Games takes it next. So, buckle up, gamers, because this ride is far from over.
