Trump Suddenly Cares About Hispanic Voters Apparently

Trump Suddenly Cares About Hispanic Voters Apparently

Folks, I almost spilled my coffee reading this one. So, GOP Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar is warning President Donald Trump that Hispanic voters feel “betrayed” by his immigration agenda. I mean, who didn’t see this coming? The Florida Republican had a “very good conversation” with the president after releasing a campaign ad featuring her dire message that “some of your immigration enforcement efforts have gone too far.” I’m sure that went over well. She even told Trump, “You have this moment in history where you can keep the pot of gold that you brought to the GOP in 2024.” Yeah, because that’s exactly what this is about – a pot of gold.

I have to give Salazar credit, she’s got guts. She’s willing to speak her mind and tell the president that his immigration policies are alienating Hispanic voters. And let’s be real, she’s not wrong. Recent polls have shown that a portion of that voting demographic is straying from the president as his overall approval rating sinks. But, of course, Trump being Trump, he had to respond by saying he’s “very strong on the borders, and she isn’t” and taking credit for her political success. Because, you know, humility is not his strong suit.

Salazar’s argument is that the average American wants some kind of immigration reform, and she’s introduced a bipartisan bill that provides some undocumented immigrants without criminal records a renewable period of legal status. She even thinks Trump “gets it” because of his background in construction and hospitality. Bless her heart. She really thinks he’s going to suddenly change his tune on immigration. I’m not holding my breath.

The White House confirmed that Salazar and the president spoke by phone, but didn’t elaborate on the conversation. I’m sure it was a real love fest. Salazar also said that some of Trump’s advisers are “compromising his legacy” on the issue of immigration, but she wouldn’t elaborate on who she was talking about. Hmm, I wonder who that could be.

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise weighed in on the issue, saying that “even amongst Republicans, we have disagreements on how to actually get to the secure border that we have and how to handle the interior problems that we still have, that were created by Joe Biden.” Yeah, because everything is always someone else’s fault. He also said he didn’t agree with Salazar that Hispanic voters who gravitated to Trump in past elections feel betrayed. I’m sure that’s just a coincidence.

In conclusion, this whole thing is just a big mess. Salazar’s trying to warn Trump that his immigration policies are hurting him with Hispanic voters, but he’s not listening. Trump’s too busy being Trump, and Scalise is just trying to spin this whole thing to blame Biden. You can’t make this stuff up, folks. And in the end, it’s just another day in the wild world of politics, where nothing ever makes sense, and everyone’s just trying to save face. 🙄
