Oh, sweet Zombie Jesus, John Bush is back! 🎤 Yes, you heard it right, the dude who tried to replace Joey Belladonna (and arguably failed 🤷♂️) is dusting off those “Sound Of White Noise” classics. Get ready for a nostalgia trip that nobody asked for! 🤣
So, Eamon O’Neill from Eonmusic (who?) dared to interview the legendary (debatable) John Bush, and guess what? He’s doing a special run of live shows. 🙄 He’ll be gracing us with his renditions of songs from “Sound Of White Noise,” “Stomp 442,” “Volume 8: The Threat Is Real,” and “We’ve Come For You All.” Four albums that Anthrax fans pretend to remember fondly. 👴
And who’s joining him? Oh, just his Category 7 bandmates – Phil Demmel (guitar), Mike Orlando (guitar), Jason Bittner (drums) – and his bestie Joey Vera on bass. Apparently, Category 7’s bassist, Jack Gibson, has a “schedule conflict.” Translation: He probably realized he had better things to do. 📅
John claims that a 2017 interview with Eonmusic (still, who?) “galvanized” this whole thing. Sure, John, whatever you say. He’s been wanting to do this “for a long time,” but it was all about finding the “right time.” 🕰️ Yeah, the right time to capitalize on Anthrax’s success while they’re busy making actual good music. 🎵
When asked about the possibility of other Anthrax members joining him, he said, “It’s their music; they wrote them. They can do whatever they want.” How generous! 😂 But seriously, if they wanted to play ten songs, that would be “great.” The door is open, guys! Just don’t expect anyone to actually walk through it.🚪
And did Scott Ian give his blessing? Well, John and Scott played together at Scott’s wife’s birthday, so that’s practically a papal endorsement, right? 🤔 Scott even joked about being a third guitar player, but he has a “conflict” with the L.A. date. A wedding in New York? Sounds like a convenient excuse to me. 💒
John wants the shows to feel “celebratory.” He’s even got a few other people “in line” to do some songs. It’s not a competition with Anthrax, guys! It’s just a “fun event.” Except it’s totally a competition. 🥊
During an appearance on SiriusXM’s “Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk” (another obscure reference!), John whined about scheduling conflicts and cold feet. He was supposed to do this in the summer, but it fell apart. Poor John. 🥺 But now he’s turning 62 (yikes!) and decided to “stop talking about it and let’s do it.” Because nothing screams “youthful energy” like a bunch of guys reliving their glory days. 👴👴👴
He chose the musicians because… well, it was supposed to be Category 7, but Jack Gibson bailed. So, why not piggyback on Category 7 and make them play twice? It’ll be “a little much,” but it’ll be a “cool story.” A cool story about how John Bush is desperately trying to stay relevant. 📖
He also mentioned that Bittner toured with Anthrax when Charlie Benante was injured. So, he knows “a lot of tunes.” Great qualification! 👍 And he wants to play “Potter’s Field,” “Fueled,” and “Safe Home,” because nobody has heard those songs in “years and years.” Maybe there’s a reason for that, John. 🤔
What about 2026? Will there be more Bush-era Anthrax celebrations? “Well, we’re gonna take this step.” A big step, apparently. And Armored Saint has a new record coming out, so he’ll be busy touring with that. But who knows? Maybe he’ll squeeze in some more nostalgia gigs if anyone actually cares. 🤷♀️
John understands why Anthrax doesn’t play his songs. Joey Belladonna has a catalog of his own stuff, and they have new records coming out. But John doesn’t want his songs to “go into oblivion.” So, if Anthrax won’t do it, he will! Because, you know, ego. 🤡
And if Anthrax was playing his songs live? “Well, I’d say most likely not.” He used to want them to do it, but now he’s all like, “If you’re not gonna do it, then I am!” Because he’s a martyr for his own music. 😇
The setlist will include not only the “well-known anthems” but also some “deeper cuts.” Because everyone’s dying to hear the deep cuts from “Stomp 442.” 😴
So, there you have it, folks. John Bush is back, and he’s bringing his Anthrax baggage with him. Get your tickets now! (Just kidding, don’t.) 🎟️🤣
