Wes Scantlin Promises New Album Will Make You Cry (Probably From Laughter)

Wes

In a new interview with Mark Strigl, PUDDLE OF MUDD frontman Wes Scantlin, the only guy keeping the “Mud” afloat (or maybe sinking it?), whose band has unleashed upon the world an album called “Kiss The Machine” (because, you know, originality), confirmed that fans (do those still exist?) can expect more sonic… uh… “art” from him in the not-too-distant future.

“I’m doing a solo record with Universal Music Group,” he bleated (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET, bless their hearts). “And there’s extra songs and stuff. And I’m still working with Jimmy Allen, the original guitar player from PUDDLE OF MUDD. I love him to death.” (Probably because Jimmy is the only one who remembers the good ol’ days when “Blurry” wasn’t just a metaphor for Wes’s life).

“We’ve got stuff in the mix, man,” Wes continued. “And we’re gonna be doing another record with Universal Music Group. This record’s being put out by Sony, the ‘Kiss The Machine’ record. So we’re doing another record with UMG, because I can’t leave them in the dust, because they basically gave me my life.” (Translation: UMG is still willing to gamble on the trainwreck. Maybe they’re into schadenfreude?) 🤷‍♂️

Asked how his solo album will be different stylistically from PUDDLE OF MUDD, Wes said: “Yeah. It’s nice, man. You’re gonna flip out, man, when you hear this stuff. It’s so crazy. When you hear this other music, aside from the ‘Kiss The Machine’ record, it will, it will possibly bring tears to your eyes about how amazing it is. It’s got a little NINE INCH NAILS in there, by the way… And there is a country vibe.” (Translation: It’s going to be a complete and utter mess. Expect industrial angst mixed with twangy heartbreak, probably recorded while under the influence of…well, you know). 🤣

“We’ve got a lot of songs, man, believe me,” he continued. “There’s a hundred million of them. All we do is just keep writing.” (A hundred million? Sure, Wes. And I’m the Queen of England. More like a hundred million half-finished riffs scribbled on a napkin in a haze of… creativity). 🙄

“When I got signed by Jimmy Iovine, the guy in his office and everybody else go, ‘Just keep writing music.’ And I was, like, ‘Okay, I can do that.’ And they’re, like, ‘Here’s a guitar. Go to the hotel and write music.’ And that’s what I did, man.” (Ah yes, the good ol’ days of being told what to do by record execs. Probably followed by trashing the hotel room and blaming it on the “ghosts”). 👻

“Kiss The Machine” was released on May 2 via Pavement Entertainment. (Pavement Entertainment? Sounds about right. Perfect for an album that’s probably going to be trampled on by the critics). 🚜
