Satanic doo-wop duo Twin Temple were kicked off of country singer Charley Crockett’s tour due to their Satanic imagery, only to be offered an opening slot at the Hollywood Palladium by Jack White.
Twin Temple were one of several acts booked as openers for various dates of Crockett’s tour, including Kashus Culpepper, Sierra Hull, Margo Price, Lee Fields, Honky Tonkin’ Queens, Wild Horses, and Pony Bradshaw. However, the duo got the boot after the country singer took a disliking to their devilish imagery.
Charley Crockett’s Decision
Twin Temple revealed the news via an Instagram post that reads as follows: “Today we were informed that Charley Crockett has decided to remove Twin Temple from his upcoming shows next week due to our Satanic imagery.
Unfortunately, that means we will not be able to perform for you next week as planned. We are really disappointed as we were looking forward to getting back out and seeing you, and also what it meant as far as bringing different types of people and music lovers together. We are sorry to everyone who was planning to see us. We’re grateful for your support, not only of Twin Temple, but more importantly of artistic freedom. HAIL SATAN! 93/93″
Jack White’s Offer
Rolling Stone later reached out for comment from Crockett, to which he replied, “I thought they were like Black Sabbath, but they ain’t. Not today, Satan.”
Crockett later posted a picture of Johnny Cash on his Facebook page, with the caption, “If they did it to Jesus, imagine what they’ll do to you.”
Jack White shortly thereafter made an Instagram post of his own featuring a picture of doo-wop act with the message, “Twin Temple, Would you like to open my show in L.A. on September 29th at the Hollywood Palladium? Let me know. Get in front of me Satan!,” playing off the title to the White Stripes’ album Get Behind Me Satan.
Upcoming Tours
Twin Temple will be joining Danzig on tour in September alongside Burning Witches and ANA. If they accept Jack White’s offer, they’ll join him a few days after the Danzig tour wraps at the Hollywood Palladium.
The shows come as part of Jack White’s North American tour in support of his new solo album Frozen Charlotte. The outing also includes dates with freak rockers Angine de Poitrine.
Meanwhile, Charley Crockett is in the midst of his “Age of the Ram” tour in support of his newest album, which marks the closing chapter of his “Sagebush” trilogy.
In conclusion, Twin Temple’s removal from Charley Crockett’s tour has led to an unexpected opportunity with Jack White, and the duo is set to join Danzig on tour in September. With their unique blend of Satanic doo-wop and Jack White’s eclectic style, fans can expect an exciting and unpredictable series of performances.
