So, “Roboticist” is the first release with the band’s new lineup, featuring singer Milo Silvestro and drummer Pete Webber, who have been touring with the band for like, three and a half years now. I guess that’s enough time to get comfortable with the whole “being in a band” thing. The song is all about the friction between man and machine, because, you know, that’s not a theme that’s been done to death in metal music or anything. 🙃
The Song Itself
The single, which premiered on SiriusXM Liquid Metal, is a blend of crushing mechanical aggression and haunting melodic hooks, because, you know, that’s what FEAR FACTORY does. The lyrics explore a dystopian reality where flesh fails and only consciousness endures, which is, like, super original and not at all a rip-off of every other sci-fi movie or book ever made. 🚀
Dino Cazares, the band’s guitarist, comments: “The future isn’t coming; it’s already here. ‘Roboticist’ is the next evolution of FEAR FACTORY. Man, Machine and the war for what comes next. I’m like, super excited for everyone to hear the beginning of a new era of FEAR FACTORY.” Yeah, because we’ve all been waiting with bated breath for the next installment of FEAR FACTORY’s epic saga of man vs. machine. 😴
But seriously, the song is actually pretty decent, if you’re into that sort of thing. The music video, directed by Vincente Cordero and produced by Arion Csihar, is also pretty cool, if you like that sort of cinematic, dystopian vibe. 🎥
The Band’s Future
So, what’s next for FEAR FACTORY? Well, they’re going on tour, of course! Because what’s a new single without a tour to support it? 🎸 The “Cybernetic Domination” European tour with CRYSTAL LAKE, HATE, and THE NOCTURNAL AFFAIR kicks off on August 29 in Poznan, Poland and concludes on October 10 in London, United Kingdom. Because, you know, Europe needs more industrial metal in its life. 🇪🇺
Dino Cazares also mentioned in a recent interview that the upcoming FEAR FACTORY album will contain lyrics that deal with the rapid rise of artificial intelligence (A.I.). Because, you know, that’s not a topic that’s been explored to death in metal music already. 🤖 But hey, at least they’re trying to stay relevant, right? 🤷♂️
