‘Big Bang Theory’ Spinoff: Because the Universe Didn’t Suffer Enough

What to Know About The Big Bang Theory Spinoff Series 4

🎉 Hold onto your hats, folks, because HBO Max, in a move that can only be described as either genius or a sign of the impending apocalypse, has ordered Stuart Fails to Save the Universe. Yes, you heard that right. Stuart Bloom, the perpetually down-on-his-luck comic book store owner from The Big Bang Theory, is getting his own spinoff. Because apparently, the world needed more Kevin Sussman. 🙄

According to a press release from Warner Bros. Discovery (whoever THEY are), this “sci-fi” spinoff will follow Stuart as he inevitably messes up saving the universe after breaking some science-y thingamajig built by Sheldon and Leonard. I’m sure it will be a masterpiece of television, filled with nuanced characters and groundbreaking storylines. NOT! 😂

So, Stuart, with his signature brand of crippling anxiety and social awkwardness, is now responsible for restoring reality itself. He’s joined by his girlfriend Denise (because even Stuart can get a girlfriend, apparently), Bert the geologist (because geology is obviously crucial to saving the universe), and, of course, Barry Kripke (because every show needs an annoying character with a speech impediment). They’ll meet alternate-universe versions of The Big Bang Theory characters, because originality is overrated. And, as the title suggests, everything will go horribly wrong. Shocker! 🤣

Bill Prady, one of the executive producers, said something about putting characters we “loved” into a “complex science fiction story.” I’m pretty sure “loved” is a strong word for Stuart Bloom. But hey, maybe I’m just a hater. Warner Bros. Television Group chairman and CEO Channing Dungey (try saying that 5 times fast) promised fans “a completely fresh twist.” Yeah, a twist so fresh it’s probably rotten. 🤢

HBO and HBO Max Content CEO and chairman Casey Bloys (these titles are getting ridiculous) said they’re “excited” to continue the legacy of The Big Bang Theory. I’m sure the ghost of Einstein is thrilled. He also praised Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady, and Zak Penn for their “vision and storytelling brilliance.” I’m starting to think someone needs a new glasses prescription. 🤓

Chuck Lorre himself said he wanted to do “something radical” that would take him out of his “comfort zone.” Apparently, that involves recycling old characters and slapping a sci-fi label on it. Groundbreaking! He also claims the characters on The Big Bang Theory would have “loved, hated, and argued about” this show. I’m pretty sure they would have just changed the channel. 📺

The cast includes Kevin Sussman, Lauren Lapkus, Brian Posehn, and John Ross Bowie. So, basically, the B-team of The Big Bang Theory. I’m sure they’re all thrilled to be back, cashing those checks. 💰

The Big Bang Theory ran for 12 seasons, which is about 11 seasons too long. It ended with “The Stockholm Syndrome,” which is probably what viewers were experiencing by the end of it all. 😵‍💫

The series ended with Stuart in a loving relationship, which is proof that anything is possible, even the end of the world by Stuart Bloom. 💥
