Aaaaaaaah! More Like Aaaaaaaagh! My Eyes! (10th Anniversary Re-Release)

aaaaaaaah still

Tickets are now on sale for what is possibly the most intellectual cinematic masterpiece of our time, nay, of all time! I’m talking about Steve Oram’s AAAAAAAAH! Yes, you read that right, the BFI Southbank, in a moment of sheer brilliance (or madness, jury’s still out), is hosting a special 10th-anniversary screening on August 20th with Oram and many of the cast gracing us with their presence. Get ready to question your existence! 🐒

AAAAAAAAH! boasts a cast so stellar, it’s practically a black hole sucking in all the talent in the universe: Julian Barratt (yes, the Mighty Boosh guy, slumming it here apparently), Toyah Willcox (still rocking, we see you!), Julian Rhind-Tutt (who?), Steve Oram (the mastermind, or is he?), Lucy Honigman (another one?), Tom Meeten (okay, getting obscure now), and Sean Reynard (who let these people in?). But wait, there’s more! The supporting cast includes Noel Fielding (Boosh reunion? 🤔), Holli Dempsey (background character #4), Shelley Longworth (who?), Alice Lowe (finally, someone recognizable), Tony Way (still going?), and Waen Shepherd (I’m starting to think they just picked names out of a hat). 🎩

AAAAAAAAH! is written and directed by Steve Oram, because apparently, no one else wanted to take responsibility. Produced by Andy Starke, who clearly has a soft spot for cinematic atrocities, and executive produced by Ben Wheatley, probably as a favor. Rook Films Releasing presents a Lincoln Studios production. Music by King Crimson ProjeKcts, because what’s a primal scream without some prog rock? 🎸

Alpha Male, Smith, and his Beta, Keith, engage in a complex power struggle to dominate a local community of… people? Apes? It’s not entirely clear. They then “hook up” (and I use that term loosely because the film involves grunting, not seduction) with the restless Female, Denise, triggering a deadly feud fueled by raw emotions and deeply buried grudges. Are we not men? Or are we simply beasts with slightly better hygiene? Steve Oram’s debut feature is a celluloid primal scream – an anarchic, hilarious, disturbing, and touching look at the human condition, assuming the human condition involves throwing feces and communicating solely through guttural noises. 💩

AAAAAAAAH! has recently been archived by the BFI, ready to be discovered by future primitive civilizations who will undoubtedly use it as evidence of our species’ utter depravity. Prepare yourselves; it’s like watching a train wreck in slow motion, except the train is made of monkeys and the destination is existential despair. 💀

Steve Oram is a British writer, director, and actor. He must be stopped before he makes another film. AAAAAAAAH! is his directorial debut, which explains a lot. He also co-wrote and starred in Ben Wheatley’s SIGHTSEERS alongside Alice Lowe. His acting work includes THE PHANTOM OF THE OPEN, THE END OF THE F**KING WORLD, SALLY4EVER, IN FABRIC, A DARK SONG, and PADDINGTON. Apparently, he’s a glutton for punishment. Oram stars in Simon Rumley’s upcoming feature CRUSHED, which will have its world premiere on August 16th at the Edinburgh International Film Festival. I suggest you bring earplugs and a strong dose of denial. 🙉

Born in the glamorous town of Boring, Oregon, Finn grew up with dreams of being a Hollywood director until he realized that satire, not cinema, was his true calling—or at least the one that let him sleep until noon.
