OMG! 😱 STUDIOCANAL, Heyday Films, and Mister Men Limited (aka Sanrio’s red-headed stepchild 🧑🦰) are actually making a Mr. Men Little Miss movie?! 🤣 Is this some kind of elaborate joke? 🤔 Did someone finally snap and decide to ruin everyone’s childhood? 😭 Seriously, who asked for this?! 🙄
So, apparently, the geniuses 🧠 behind the Paddington franchise (because, you know, that’s *exactly* the same vibe 🐻) are blessing us with a cinematic ✨ masterpiece 🤡 based on those simplistic, blob-like characters we all vaguely remember from our toddler years. The film promises to bring the “ambition, humour, and world creation” of Mr. Men Little Miss to the big screen for the very first time. Ambition? Humour? World creation? Are they serious?! 😂 Last time I checked, their world revolved around being Mr. Grumpy or Little Miss Sunshine. 🌞☁️
Launched in 1971 (which, let’s be honest, was like, the Stone Age 🪨), Mr. Men Little Miss was all about “emotions, individuality, and simple, universal storytelling.” I mean, yeah, if you consider “being a circle with a hat” individuality. 🔵🎩 And now, after being assimilated by the Sanrio Borg 👾 in 2011, the brand has “expanded its global reach.” Translation: they’re slapping those blobs on everything from Hello Kitty lunchboxes 🍱 to adult diapers 🚼. Over 90 characters, you say? I bet half of them are just slight variations of Mr. Tickle, but with a different coloured nose. 🤡👃
But wait, there’s more! This cinematic 💩-storm is building on the success of an animated series on YouTube (because that’s where quality goes to thrive 💀) and another one in production for TV (yay, more screen time for these blobs! 📺). Sanrio’s strategy is to “extend the brand into dynamic entertainment platforms.” 🙄 Translation: milk every last drop of nostalgia out of this geriatric cash cow. 🐄💰
The film will “honour the humour, personality, and warmth” of the original characters. 🥶 Warmth? From Mr. Grumpy? Good luck with that! 😂 But hey, they’re also inviting “new audiences” to discover Mr. Men Little Miss in a “bold, contemporary, and cinematic way.” Translation: expect lots of CGI, celebrity voiceovers, and a plot so convoluted it’ll make Inception look like Teletubbies. 😵💫
Adam Hargreaves, son of the late Roger Hargreaves (the poor guy probably rolled over in his grave 🪦 when he heard about this), says his father would have been “thrilled.” Yeah, right. 🙄 I bet he’d be thrilled to see his simple creations turned into a soulless corporate cash grab. 💸 But hey, it’s a “big step up for Mr. Small.” I guess any step is a big step when you’re, well, small. 🤷♀️
David Heyman, Producer, Heyday Films adds “The globally beloved books of Mr Men and Little Miss offer an irresistible opportunity for a bold and imaginative feature film adaptation.” Irresistible? 🤣 Bold and imaginative? More like creatively bankrupt and utterly unnecessary. 🤦♀️ But hey, at least he’s “delighted” to be partnering with STUDIOCANAL and Sanrio on this “captivating new creative adventure.” Captivating like watching paint dry, maybe. 😴
Anna Marsh, CEO of STUDIOCANAL, is “so thrilled and honoured” to be working on this. Seriously, these people need to dial it down. 🙄 An “undeniable opportunity for joy, mischief, and adventure”! 😂 More like an undeniable opportunity to fleece unsuspecting parents out of their hard-earned cash. 💸💸💸
Tomokuni Tsuji, President and CEO of Sanrio, concludes that this film will serve as “ambassadors of joy, creating smiles and widening the circle of happiness.” 🙄 More like ambassadors of corporate greed, creating headaches and widening the circle of disappointment. 😩 But hey, it advances their “long-term vision to build an IP platform delivering next-generation joy.” Next-generation joy? 🤔 Sounds like something out of a dystopian sci-fi movie. 🤖
STUDIOCANAL is also patting themselves on the back for their Paddington franchise. 🐻 Because apparently, that’s relevant. 🤷♀️ Paddington The Musical is previewing at The Savoy Theatre in London’s West End to “rave reviews.” Raves from who? Blind people? 🙉
So, there you have it. A Mr. Men Little Miss movie is coming. Brace yourselves. Prepare for the worst. And for the love of all that is holy, don’t take your kids. 🙏 Save your money and buy them a book instead. 📚 At least then they might learn something. 🤓
