Well, well, well, looks like all you Ninja Theory fans out there are in for a major disappointment 🤕. The previously announced horror game, Project Mara, has been cancelled 🚫, and we can’t help but think it’s a bit of a horror story in itself 🎃. We mean, who needs a game about mental health and horror when you can just play a game about, well, Senua 🤷♀️?
It seems like the entire team at Ninja Theory, all 85 of them, are now working on Senua, because, you know, that’s what the people really want 🙄. We’re not sure what’s more surprising, the fact that they cancelled Project Mara or the fact that they had 85 people working on it in the first place 🤯. We guess that’s what happens when you have a “mainstream solution” to mental health 🤪.
According to an interview with Xbox Wire Editor-In-Chief Joe Skrebels, Ninja Theory Studio Head, Dom Matthews, dropped the bombshell that Project Mara is no more 💣. He said, “With the fact we have the entire team working on this game, I suspect some people might ask what’s happened to Project Mara–I took the decision to not work on that any further,” 🤷♂️. Because, you know, it’s not like they were working on it for six years or anything 🙄.
We’re not sure what’s more disappointing, the fact that Project Mara is cancelled or the fact that we’ll never get to experience the “horrors of the mind” in a game 🤯. But hey, at least we have Senua to look forward to, right? 🎉. The game was announced during the XBOX Games Showcase 2026 and is slated for a 2027 release, so mark your calendars 📅.
Project Mara was initially announced on January 22nd, 2020, when Ninja Theory was working on Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II 📆. According to Gamesradar, the game was meant to be a serious examination of mental health while blending elements of horror 🤖. But, alas, it seems like that’s not happening anymore 🚫.
It’s not all bad news, though 🌞. Ninja Theory has found a strong foothold in the Senua series, and they haven’t seemed to suffer any major losses despite the cancellation 🙅♂️. Matthews said, “We had smaller teams working on the last two Hellblade games–Hellblade I in particular was a team of about 25 people,” 🤝. So, yeah, they’re doing just fine 🙄.
In conclusion, if you were looking forward to playing Project Mara, well, sorry not sorry 🤷♀️. But hey, at least you have Senua to look forward to, and who knows, maybe it’ll be a game that will “deliver a mainstream solution to help treat mental suffering and encourage mental well being” 🤪. Yeah, right 🙄. Anyway, we hope you’re all having a great day and that this news hasn’t ruined your life 🌟. 😊👍
