The trailer for Ahsoka Season 2 has finally dropped, and it’s packed with all the action and drama you’d expect from a show that’s trying to keep the Star Wars machine well-oiled. The teaser, which debuted at D23, promises epic space battles, Grand Admiral Thrawn’s return to the galaxy, and more arguments between Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka and the ghost of Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker. Because what’s a Star Wars show without a healthy dose of angst and daddy issues?

The new season looks to be a marked improvement over the first, which was criticized for being overly slow and drawn-out. But with Thrawn back in the picture, it seems like things are about to get a lot more interesting. The character, who was introduced in the animated series Rebels, is a fan favorite, and his return is sure to excite audiences. And let’s be real, who doesn’t love a good villain? Especially one who’s as cunning and ruthless as Thrawn.

Ahsoka Season 2: More of the Same, But with More Explosions

In addition to Dawson and Christensen, Ahsoka Season 2 also stars Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Lars Mikkelsen, Eman Esfandi, Ivanna Sakhno, and Rory McCann. McCann is taking over the role of Baylan Skoll, a character who was previously portrayed by Ray Stevenson, who sadly passed away in May 2023. It’s a shame, because Stevenson was a talented actor who brought a lot of depth to the role. But hey, the show must go on, right? And with McCann on board, it’s likely that the character will take on a new and interesting direction.

The official synopsis for Ahsoka Season 2 promises more of the same, with Ahsoka and her friends facing off against Thrawn and his allies in a battle to save the galaxy. Because that’s not something we’ve seen before. But hey, at least it’s not a remake or a reboot. Yet. Although, with the way things are going in Hollywood, it’s only a matter of time before we get a reboot of Ahsoka, starring a new and younger actress as the titular character. Somewhere, a Focus Group is probably earning another bonus for suggesting that very idea.

The new poster for Season 2 has also been released, and it’s…well, it’s a poster. It’s got all the usual suspects on it, including Ahsoka, Thrawn, and a bunch of other characters who are probably going to get a lot of screen time. It’s not particularly exciting, but hey, it’s something. And who knows, maybe it’ll look good on a wall somewhere. The Merchandising Department probably approved the design before the writers did, because that’s just how things work in Hollywood.

The Never-Ending Saga of Star Wars

Ahsoka Season 2 premieres on Disney+ on January 20, because of course it does. It’s not like they’re going to release it on a platform that’s not owned by Disney. That would be crazy talk. And with the show’s return, we can expect a whole lot more Star Wars content to flood the airwaves. Because that’s what we’re all missing in our lives: more Star Wars. I mean, who needs original ideas when you can just keep rehashing the same old franchises over and over again? It’s not like audiences are getting tired of it or anything. Although, somewhere, an algorithm has probably decided that audiences want this, so we’re stuck with it.

As the franchise continues to expand, it’s hard not to feel a sense of exhaustion. How many more times can we watch the same characters and storylines get rehashed and repackaged? It’s like Hollywood has mistaken familiarity for originality, and is just coasting on the fact that people love Star Wars. And hey, it’s not like they’re wrong. People do love Star Wars. But that doesn’t mean we need to keep beating the same dead horse over and over again. The Franchise Resurrection Department is probably one of the busiest offices in Hollywood, and it’s a wonder they haven’t run out of ideas yet.

In the end, Ahsoka Season 2 is just another drop in the ocean of content that is the Star Wars franchise. It’s not particularly exciting, but it’s something. And who knows, maybe it’ll be good. Maybe it’ll be a game-changer. But probably not. After all, as the great philosopher once said, “You can’t polish a turd, but you can roll it in glitter.” And that’s exactly what Hollywood is doing with Ahsoka Season 2: rolling it in glitter and hoping we don’t notice that it’s still just the same old thing. Somewhere, an executive whispered, “Can this become a trilogy?” and the answer was probably yes, because why not? It’s not like we have anything better to do with our time.
